Local Brewery seeks Short Order Cook who takes pride in their work
A fast growing local brewpub is looking for an inspired, self-starting cook who manages time well in and out of a rush. We want to work with a positive, forward thinking food lover who can push our limited kitchen equipment in amazing new directions. Kalihi Beer runs a cold kitchen with limited equipment currently used to make high quality hot sandwiches and light appetizers. We’re looking for someone with a passion for heavy pupus and ono grinds that can make it work without a grill or a fryer. We want to focus on house made sauces and dips to pair with quick cook items we can make in the impingement oven.
Our kitchen is open Friday through Sunday, 11am to 9pm. We need two cooks to handle prep and service duties. We offer compensation commensurate with experience from $20/hour to $25 for the most qualified applicants. Experience is highly desired. More important than experience is a self starting individual that works well with a team and communicates effectively. Our team is made up of people who take pride in what they do and are motivated to contribute to the betterment of the team and the business. Slackers need not apply, because at Kalihi Beer we push ourselves to offer the best beer, the best service, and the best food to our guests because that’s what makes us feel alive. Any applicant that doesn’t thrive on this kind of fuel will not be considered
The kitchen is equipped with a panini press, a small hot plate style grill and an impingement oven. We’ve got a 20 cup rice maker, crock pots, and a turkey roaster along with blenders and small appliances. We additionally use a propane fired flat grill outside on weekends for our smash burgers. We have choke refrigeration and freezer space.
We are looking for someone who can make magic within these limitations. Sandwiches and burritos are our go to, but we’re looking to move into musubi’s, salads, quick prep foods like gyoza and spring rolls and….? What do you bring to the mix?
You should first and foremost have a passion for not just cooking, but creating. We are passionate and creative in our approach to making our beer, and we need a cook who can match that enthusiasm in our food program. You need to be familiar with inventory systems, ordering, unit cost analysis, and the magic trick of turning limited ingredients into diverse menu options.
If this is you, tell us about yourself in an email to chris with your resume attached and 2 paragraphs about yourself and what makes you love cooking.
