Job Summary:
We are looking for a skilled Installation Technician to work in an environment involving security caging builds, IT cabinet installations, overhead basket tray/ladder racking/fiber guide installations, low voltage cabling, access control, cctv systems and under-floor power cabling. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in general construction, along with an understanding of low voltage systems maintenance and troubleshooting, particularly within data center environments. This position will support our onsite field supervisors.
Travel Required: 25-50%
Key Responsibilities:
Install and configure data center infrastructure and low voltage systems, including:
IT cabinets, network racks, caging, locking hardware and server enclosures.
Overhead basket trays, ladder racks, and fiber guides.
Low-voltage structured cabling systems (e.g.,Coax, CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6A, fiber optics).
Under-floor power distribution systems and KoldLok panels for raised floor environments.
Access control systems, CCTV, and physical security hardware.
Perform terminations and testing:
Terminate copper (RJ45) and fiber optic connections (LC, SC, ST, etc.).
Test installed cabling using Fluke testers or equivalent tools to ensure signal integrity and proper performance.
Blueprint interpretation and planning:
Read and interpret blueprints, network diagrams, and technical schematics to plan installations accurately.
Conduct site surveys to evaluate infrastructure needs, identify potential obstacles, and provide accurate project estimates.
Ensure compliance:
Adhere to industry standards and local building codes.
Follow safety protocols to maintain a secure job site based on company and customer protocol (proper signage, vests, helmets, safety glass, cones, etc)
Troubleshoot and maintain:
Identify and resolve connectivity issues, network latency, or equipment malfunctions.
Perform preventive maintenance on racks, cabling, and network devices to ensure ongoing operational efficiency.
Documentation and reporting:
Maintain accurate records of installations, modifications, and repairs in accordance with client requirements.
Communicate effectively with field supervisors and project managers to ensure timely project delivery.
Qualifications:
Experience in data center fit-out installations, including server racks, cable management systems, and low-voltage cabling.
Technical knowledge of cabling standards and best practices, with hands-on experience in terminating Coax, CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6A, and fiber optics.
Familiarity with network hardware such as routers, switches, patch panels, UPS systems, and PDUs.
Proficient in using installation tools, such as cable crimpers, punch-down tools, fiber splicing tools, cable testers, and power drills.
BICSI certification (Installer, Technician) or similar is a plus.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
