The Chief Architect is responsible for providing overall leadership, establishing and maintaining technical roadmaps and representing all architecture disciplines for the UnitedHealthcare Employer & Individual business. They are responsible for leading business, portfolio and solutions architecture, as well as engagement with other Chief Architects across he organization. Core responsibilities will include:

  • Create a consolidated 3-year strategic architecture roadmap for the UnitedHealthcare Employer & Individual (UHC E&I) organization
  • Socialize, evolve and obtain buy-in for the strategic roadmap
  • Ensure strategic objectives for UHC E&I architecture align with overall UHG strategic goals
  • Influence leadership on key decisions as it relates to the technology strategy as well as specific line of business plan
  • Drive ongoing architecture governance activities
  • Provide architecture thought leadership when selecting tools and setting standards
  • Participate in leadership discussions regarding new technology introduction and/or enterprise system planning activities
  • Translate technology concepts into clear, digestible, business appropriate language
  • Create images, graphics and/or charts that provide exceptional clarity and connections to business objectives
  • Package presentations concisely for UHC E&I leadership and other executives
  • Provide direct leadership to a team of 40 people accountable for business architecture, portfolio architecture and solution architecture
  • Set / mature the vision and strategy for the team
  • Create and foster an environment of innovation including: remove roadblocks and enable strategic risk taking; advocate and drive change management, enable and model adoption of innovative behaviors and practices
  • Commit time, focus and energy on the development, coaching and performance feedback for each employee on the team
  • Advocate for the team by moving decisions forward and eliminating barriers
  • Identify and select the right talent in support of our mission
  • 15 + years of progressive technology leadership experiences
  • Demonstrated expertise in Business and Enterprise Architecture
  • Proven success creating business-enabling 3 year technology roadmaps
  • Experience architecting scalable technology solutions that adjust to cyclical business patterns
  • History of engaging with cSuite stakeholders
  • Proven track record of effective working relationships with executives and key business partners to drive change agendas
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking abilities and an enterprise-wide perspective
  • History of executing with excellence: setting purposeful goals and achieving them through intelligent actions, balancing competing priorities without losing momentum behind execution
  • Experience leading through influence in a large, matrixed, global environment
  • Prior people management responsibilities with senior level team members as direct reports
  • Leadership style which fosters accountability, transparent communication and innovation
  • High level of emotional intelligence and confidence
  • Outstanding collaboration, strong influencing, problem solving and negotiation skills
  • Proven ability to sell ideas to others outside of your direct team members
  • Experience with Digital, Data & Analytics and Open Source technologies desired
  • Healthcare experiences preferred
