Romano Law, PC is a full-service family law and criminal defense firm (Criminal Defense, DUI & Divorce) providing legal services throughout Oregon, and is seeking an additional associate attorney to join our team.

We are seeking a licensed attorney to provide excellent representation to our clients on a variety of matters. Applicants can focus on criminal defense, family law, or both.

We have an office in Portland and this position can be on-site, remote or a hybrid of both. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who wants a healthy work/life/family balance, and the ability to maintain flexibility.

Qualified candidates must have all or some of the following skills: excellent research and writing capabilities, strong interpersonal and client relationship skills, prior experience with discovery (including depositions), experience in mediation and/or settlement conferences, motion practice and trial experience, courtroom case presentation, analyzing facts, evidence, cases, statutes, and precedents to arrive at logical conclusions, proper technique in handling exhibits and documents, writing clear and concise reports, records, legal documents and statistical data.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

● Attend hearings and trials throughout Oregon

● Regularly represent clients in negotiations, including mediation and arbitration

● Perform research, draft briefs, pleadings, and motions and memoranda

● Independently handle complex child custody disputes and divorces, including issues of domestic violence, substance abuse, and mental health.

● Prepare and appear at various court appearances including arraignments, pre-trial motions, pleas, sentencing, restitution, trials, and various other hearings (including DMV administrative hearings), throughout Oregon

● Caseload will include a mixture of misdemeanor and felony criminal cases, but mostly DUI and DV cases

● Perform research, draft legal motions, pleadings and memoranda

● Direct the focus of investigative efforts

● Ensure the client is able to make informed choices regarding whether to go to trial or take a plea

● Review case law and legislative/administrative changes.

● Communicate effectively and persuasively in oral and written forms

● Manage legal cases including preparing and presenting cases for trial in court

● Analyze and evaluate statements of witnesses, victims and obtain evidence;

● Effectively negotiate cases with district attorney’s offices

● Courteously meet and deal effectively with other employees, clients, victims, witnesses, media, professionals, state agencies, law enforcement officials, attorneys, courts and the public.

Requirements and Qualifications:

● JD from an accredited law school

● License to practice law in Oregon

● Litigation experience (3-5 years preferred; less for the right motivated candidate)

● Excellent organizational and time-management skills

● Ability to meet deadlines in fast-paced environment

● Excellent negotiation, analytical, and research skills

● Persuasive writing and verbal communication skills.

● Ability to travel to & from various courthouses for appearances, as needed

● Creative and strategic thinking

● Ability to both work within a team and complete work

● Positive attitude

● Proficient with Microsoft Suite/Office 365

● If you are going to choose to work remotely, you must have a private full office set-up, including a secured computer, high speed internet and a printer/scanner.

Salary: $75,000 - $150,000 annually, DOE.
