The 1st Mortgage Loan Specialist is responsible for providing prompt, accurate, and proactive member service while working with members, 1st Mortgage Loan Officers, Centennial Lending, and other third-party vendors to complete all processing activities for 1st mortgage loan applications. Reviews and analyzes mortgage documentation for accuracy and completeness while resolving issues with members, staff, or Centennial Lending. Provides support to the First Mortgage Department while assisting members in a courteous, professional, and confidential manner.

  • Establishes, reviews, and monitors mortgage loan files to ensure proper documentation is obtained and completed throughout entire loan process. Reviews incoming documents to assure complete, accurate information, and updates information in appropriate systems. Requests and verifies accuracy of incoming data and coordinates any problems/discrepancies with borrowers and Mortgage Loan Officers. Assembles and analyzes borrower data and computes ratios for submission to Centennial underwriters.
  • Receives and follows up on outstanding documentation. Works with member(s), Mortgage Loan Officer, and Centennial’s team to clear outstanding underwriting stipulations to ensure loan is moving through process and hitting appropriate milestones for timely closings.
  • Orders and reviews title insurance, appraisals, verifications, flood certifications, credit reports, and other ancillary products.
  • Handles member inquiries and answers preliminary questions about real estate lending, loan qualification process, quotes rates, responds to Centennial and Pulse referrals, sets appointments with Mortgage Loan Officers, and promotes all credit union services available.
  • Assists the First Mortgage Department’s business development goals by serving as a liaison between the team and the community.
  • Assists the First Mortgage Loan Manager with monthly balancing, reporting, and any other job-related duties as assigned.

Experience: Three years to five years of similar or related experience, including preparatory experience.

Education/Certifications/Licenses: A high school degree or equivalent. Incumbents are required to maintain their registration active, and current, with the National Mortgage Licensing System throughout their employment.

Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust, credibility and diplomacy is required. In-depth dialogue, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors can be of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature. Communications may involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance. Typically includes subject matter experts as well as first level to middle managers.
