Financial Reporting SpecialistEmployment is with The Research Foundation for The State University of New York, a private, nonprofit, educational corporation that administers sponsored program activity for the University at Albany.Description of Duties:As a member of the Office of Sponsored Programs Administration, Division for Research, the Financial Reporting Specialist provides post-award financial analysis and support for research grants and contracts received by the Research Foundation for SUNY. The Financial Reporting Specialist is responsible for the submission of billings and financial reports, monitoring, depositing and applying receipts, collection of outstanding invoices and developing positive working relationships with the members of the University community, as well as funding agencies and collaborating partners. Major duties of this position include:Accurate preparation and timely submission of system generated billings, manual billings and financial status reports in the individualized format dictated by sponsor contacts/grants. Includes the review and interpretation of the contract/grant documentation, identification of expenditures into appropriate budget categories, calculation of expenditures and reporting of cost sharing for invoicing and financial reporting.Monitoring incoming payments and securing revenue by electronic submission of bank deposit and applying receipts into the Oracle system.Perform various collection activity to determine the status of payment including contacting sponsoring agencies by phone, electronically or certified letters.Closeout of all assigned awards. Includes request for budget adjustments, cash transfers, sponsor refunds and ensuring cost sharing is documented in file.Keep informed with changing sponsor, federal, Research Foundation and University regulations.Develop and maintain positive working relationships with the members of the University community, as well as funding agencies and collaborating partners to resolve any billing, financial reporting, and collection issues.Run required monitoring reports from the Oracle system.Other duties as assigned. May include account reconciliations, pulling and reviewing audit documentation.MinimumQualifications: This position requires 4 years of financial experience; or a Bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization plus 2 years financial experience.The successful candidate is self-directed, has proven experience to prioritize duties and meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment; has proven experience working independently and in an interrelated team environment.Has experience calculating and managing accounting figures, able to think critically and pay close attention to detail with strong problem-solving skills. Flexible, highly motivated, results-oriented are essential qualities. Needs to be able to make sound, independent decisions and demonstrate an ability to use a high degree of judgement.Computer proficiency with experience navigating, utilizing, and learning web-based software programs. Experience using Microsoft Office applications with intermediate level of experience for EXCEL. Must have experience creating spreadsheets, with a basic knowledge of formulas and must be able to sort and filter data.Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Has proven experience providing outstanding customer service to a wide range of clientele.Must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.Must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging, relative to their role.Preferred Qualifications:Highly desirable experience in a higher education environment and grant/contract management.Persons interested in the above position should submit a resume, three work-related references, along with a letter of application.
