- Provide engineering services to design and architect new IT systems, applications, and approaches, specifically
- Design Linux-based systems and recommend open-source solutions
- Architect and specify requirements for High Performance Computers in the 5 - 10 PFLOP range, assist with startup and commissioning, and develop operating schemes
- Specify requirements and assist planning for installation, commissioning, and operations of storage systems
- Specify requirements and assist planning for installation, commissioning, and operations of artificial intelligence/machine learning clusters
- Design admin/enterprise, Windows-based, IT systems including networks, desktop engineering, and data centers
- Assist the Program Manager in development and maintenance of the IT Strategy and road map
- Develop and maintain disaster recovery (DR) plans and procedures
- Design systems for high availability (HA) and Fault Tolerance to meet NETL requirements
- Implementation of new systems and strategies such as upgrading major systems and components (e.g. Palo Alto firewalls, new network core switches, establishing processes for maintaining NETL's baseline, etc.)
- Maintain a 'rolling' 2-year planning horizon in terms of projects, cost estimates, and project Milestones
- Support annual planning, which includes providing a consolidated view of current & future architectures, identifying constraints in the current architecture, and developing (business process, application, information or data, network and data center infrastructure and cyber security) road maps
- Support the program in development of business cases and strategy documents
- Develop and maintain a structured framework that aligns IT investments and activities including baseline configuration of systems, applications, software, and operational

- Monitor system operational and technical metrics to maintain a high state of operational readiness and availability
- Suggest new initiatives and innovational approaches to maintain the program at the cutting edge of IT technological capability
- Support communications including development of communications plan and measurements, publishing models and documents, and providing end-user support for utilizing models and other artifacts
- Understanding of information technology and telecommunications systems; working knowledge of network interoperability, data center systems, cybersecurity, and survivability issues, including IT best practices and standards
- Strong understanding of enterprise and research IT, including networking infrastructure, systems administration, data centers, and software applications and th development life cycle
- Strong understanding of research IT platforms, including high performance computing, artificial intelligence, and approach to applying cyber rules to an R&D environment
- Experience working with technologies including, but not limited to: cyber tools (Tenable Nessus, Splunk), Linux/Unix, and Windows systems
- Knowledge in system administration, remote management, troubleshooting, and understanding of IT System health monitoring
- Familiarity with NIST and Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) to include NIST standards and special publications and the Risk Management Framework (RMF)
- Reasoning and problem-solving skills (including skills in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving cyber defense infrastructure anomalies)
- Work in a matrix organizational structure and distributed team environment
- Recognize and deal appropriately with confidential and sensitive information
- Ability to implement project plans and document progress of assigned tasks
- Ability to prepare and deliver presentations to technical and non-technical audiences
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working in DevSecOps or Agile environments
- Government IT experience is highly desired
- Familiarity with cyber security and auditing tools
- Advanced knowledge of system, network, and OS hardening techniques. (e.g. remove unnecessary services, password policies, least privilege, etc.)
- Experience working with technologies including but not limited to: KVM, Hypervisor, OpenStack, Docker, Salt, Ansible, and Terraform
- Understanding of scripting languages, such as python, bash, VB, PowerShell, etc.
- Knowledge about securing network communications
- Knowledge using incident handling methodologies for next level support, if needed
- Experience in applying host/network access controls (e.g. access control list)
