Job Title: Line Cook (Bilingual)
Location: Upper West Side, New York City
Reports to: Executive Sous Chef / Chef / General Manager
Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Line Cook for our upscale Chinese restaurant in NYC. The ideal candidate will be bilingual, with the ability to communicate effectively in both English and Mandarin. This role requires proficiency in preparing high-quality Chinese cuisine, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-demand kitchen environment. You will collaborate closely with our culinary team to ensure an exceptional dining experience for our guests.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and cook dishes following the restaurant's high standards for Chinese cuisine, ensuring consistency and quality.
Assist in preparing ingredients, chopping vegetables, meats, and preparing sauces.
Operate kitchen equipment such as woks, steamers, fryers, grills, and ovens.
Follow recipes and presentation guidelines as set by the Executive Chef and Sous Chef.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and work stations.
Ensure proper food storage and handling, adhering to safety and sanitation standards.
Monitor inventory and help with restocking as necessary.
Communicate effectively with other kitchen staff, waitstaff, and management, ensuring smooth kitchen operations.
Ensure all food orders are prepared and served in a timely manner.
Handle customer dietary restrictions and special requests with care.
Work efficiently under pressure during peak hours, maintaining composure and focus.
Assist with training and mentoring junior kitchen staff.
Qualifications:
2+ years of experience in a line cook position, ideally in a Chinese or upscale restaurant setting.
Bilingual (English and Mandarin or Cantonese) with excellent communication skills in both languages.
Strong knowledge of Chinese flavors, and ingredients preferred.
Ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced kitchen environment.
Excellent knife skills and familiarity with kitchen equipment.
Attention to detail in food preparation and presentation.
Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to work in a hot, fast-paced kitchen environment.
