As the Director of Finance / Controller, reporting to the Vice President for Business and Finance, your main responsibilities will include:

-Oversee accounting, payroll, student accounts, bookstore, and mail & copy center functions and lead and mentor staff.

-Preparation of financial and budget reports for review by College leadership. 

-Modeling of budget scenarios in development of College’s annual operating budget and strategic initiatives

-Coordinate quarterly endowment investment reconciliation and preparation of endowment reporting

-Implement internal controls as needed to safeguard the College’s assets. 

-Serve as the College’s liaison with the external auditors and coordinate the College’s annual audit preparation effort for the general audit as well as the A-133 audit.

-Monitor federal and state regulations and accounting pronouncements to ensure that the College remains in compliance with relevant regulations, policies and procedures.

-Work closely with members of the College community to ensure a high level of support and service in all areas of responsibility.

-Provide staff support with the Vice President for Business and Finance, to the Audit, Investments, and Finance Committees of the Board of Trustees.

-Represent the Business Office with the College’s computing staff on matters related to administrative computing system. 

-Participation in professional association training and events related to topics of higher education accounting and finance

-Acts as the College’s Bond Compliance Officer to ensure the College remains compliant with federal regulations.

-Provide backup to other Business Office functions as needed.

What Will Make You Successful?

-Bachelor’s degree with accounting coursework or experience. 

-CPA required.

-Master’s degree in accounting or finance is preferred.

-A minimum of five to ten years’ experience in a progressively responsible professional accounting position is required. In depth experience with annual audits.

-Public accounting and higher ed/non-profit preferred.

-Ability to utilize technology to streamline processes, enhance productivity, improve security, etc.

-Demonstrated effective leadership and interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively both as a member of teams and as a leader of teams.

-Appreciation for the participative culture of higher education, with ability to listen and relate well with all College constituencies, including trustees, faculty, staff and students. Ability to work under pressure with minimum of supervision. 

-Must be able to organize a large variety of interrelated tasks with attention to detail.

-Ability to effectively supervise Business Office staff.

-Ability to exercise good judgement and show initiative.

-Proficiency with Word, Excel and enterprise resource systems. 

-Superior communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
