Strength & Conditioning Group Instructor

We're looking for coaches who approach their work within the strength and conditioning field with a growth mindset and who can be dynamic and adaptable with a variety of people. We are hiring coaches for Fitness and Performance classes (see descriptions below), with a preference for people who are able to instruct both class types.
Our general hiring process is as follows:

- Practical: shadow at least one class and assist the working coach during the class

We'll be holding interviews in person or virtually on Wednesdays from 10:30-Noon. Interviews will be in 30 min blocks. All interviews will be scheduled with the applicant. Please do not show up unannounced expecting an interview.

Job Overview: Strength and Conditioning Instructors lead, instruct, and motivate class participants in a small group fitness environment while executing Project Fortius group programming.
General Responsibilities and Duties:
- Confidently execute Project Fortius group programming in group classes
- Emphasize movement quality and cue correct movement form throughout classes
- Scale movements and intensity for a variety of abilities and fitness levels when appropriate
- Engage participants in an approachable and well-informed manner
- Attend staff meetings (1x month), report on class performance, and engage in regular communication with management
- Coordinate with other fitness instructors and management for class coverage
- Arrive 10 min before scheduled class time to prepare the room, equipment, and welcome members
- Use scheduling software to ensure that all class attendees pre-register for class and mark attendance
- Ensure all equipment is returned to its original location and that the gym is organized at the end of each class
- Reports any equipment and gym maintenance issues to management in a timely manner
Strength & Conditioning Instructor Qualifications:
At least 1 year of experience working in the fitness industry as a group fitness instructor for strength and conditioning classes. Capable of teaching various exercises, including the basic barbell lifts, basic kettlebell movements, and general sandbag lifts.
Other Qualifications:
- Current group fitness or personal trainer certification with a major nationally accredited organization (NASM, ACE, ACSM, NSCA, etc.) or equivalent. Any equivalency must be approved by the Project Fortius management team
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to teach and convey complex concepts of fitness in an easily understandable fashion
- Willingness to learn and receive feedback
- Must be able to move, carry, and lift 50 pounds in weight
- Basic First Aid & CPR Certification
- Likes dogs
Instructor Pay (employee):
Hourly Pay Rate: $40 - $55/hr
Probation period (with potential for pay increases after each probation period)
1 month, 3 months, & 6 months with performance reviews at each interval
Other compensation:
- Free membership (can take classes)
- Free personal training rental; hour-for-hour match (work x hrs, get x hrs personal training rent free).
- 24 access to the facility for training
Personal training will be conducted as an independent contractor, not as an employee. An Independent Contractor Agreement must be signed and a copy of business insurance with Project Fortius named as an additional insured must be received prior to scheduling personal training.
Class Schedule:
Classes are held seven days a week. Classes and times may vary throughout the year to reflect seasonal needs. Morning and evening classes are held most days of the week, as well as Saturday and Sunday mornings.
