Tour Guide Position at Peak Tours & Transit - Share Portland's History & Food!

Are you passionate about sharing stories and experiences with visitors from around the world? Join Peak Tours & Transit as a Tour Guide and lead engaging walking tours through downtown Portland. We are looking for up to three tour guides, or one to two flexible guides. These are the tours:

1) Sightseeing tours via passenger van (Ford Transit), including Portland and the Columbia River Gorge.

2) Walking tours of downtown Portland, focused on history/culture.

3) Walking tours of downtown Portland, focused on food (like our Coffee, Chocolate, and Doughnuts tour).

More about who we’re looking for:

Experience in performance or public speaking: You’re comfortable in front of groups and can captivate an audience with your personality and knowledge.

Knowledge of, or interest in learning about, Portland’s history and Portland's food scene. Current knowledge is a big bonus, but if you're eager to learn, that might be enough. We will provide training.

Physical requirements: Walking tours involve about 1.5 miles of walking, so you should be comfortable with this level of physical activity.

Other requirements: Giving shuttle tours requires an excellent driving record and ability to comfortably drive a passenger van.

Details:

Contractor position: As a contractor, you'll be responsible for maintaining your own General Liability insurance (approximately $20-30 per month), or you can be added to our policy for a one-time fee of $30.

Food Handler card: If you lead food tours, you’ll need a valid Food Handler card, which you can obtain online for just $10. The card is valid for 3 years.

Compensation: $65.00 per 3-hour tour; $54.00 per 2.5-hour tour; $43.00 per 2-hour tour. Tipping is customary, and many guides receive tips for excellent service.

Schedule: Walking tours: current food tours run from 9:30 AM to noon, and history tours run from 10:00 AM to noon, on days when tours are booked. Shuttle tours: current shuttle tours run from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, and from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Bookings ebb and flow with the tourism season. You do not need to guide every booked tour and can provide us with your availability.
