Job Description:The Engineering Manager will lead SoarTech's dynamic team of Software and AI Engineers while embracing the Core Values of the organization in all interactions. The Engineering Manager will work with the team of Principal Investigators (PI), Scientists, Directors and Program Management Office (PMO)to drive projects and support and lead the engineering team in their day to day operations. The Engineering Manager possesses a strong business acumen to make the best decisions for SoarTech and its team members, customers and programs. Additionally, the Engineering Manager will demonstrate professionalism in all interactions with SoarTech employees, customers, partners and contractors. This position can be based from the Ann Arbor or Orlando offices and may require travel. Possesses a clear understanding of operational and business objectives in order to lead and provide vision for the Engineering team and meet customer needs
Partners effectively with PIs to ensure project deadlines are met
Communicates project delays, problems or changes to the PMO and Director of Operations
Analyzes project requirements and workload to make sure resources are allocated appropriately
Assists PIs in determining what technical resources will best serve the project
Works closely with the PMO to manage team allocations and identifies needs for future project staffing
Establishes technical mentorship programs through identification of technical experts and innovators among the team and developing a systematic program to offer guidance, coaching and mentoring for professional and career growth
Serves as a mentor to supervisors and engineers in the organization
Manages the career track and skill development of Engineering Supervisors, Technical experts and Engineers to promote career growth potential and advancement throughout the team
Partners with HR on employee recruitment, selection, employee growth and development plans, performance evaluations, recognition and/or disciplinary actions
Ensures interviewers are properly trained and understand HR restrictions
Maintains interview process for all open roles within the Engineering Department
May participate on technical project work and provides technical expertise as needed
Advises Business Development and PI Teams on proposal development to ensure engineering team can support future business opportunities
Identifies opportunities for process and operational improvement in the Engineering team and other business areas to optimize efficiency and reduce waste
Identifies, evaluates and recommends new/emerging technologies and processes for potential implementation.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Experience:Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or related area of study.
Minimum 12 years of relevant work experience in Software or Artificial Intelligence Engineering
Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience to include successfully leading remote teams
Strong business acumen, management influence and enterprise-wide thinking
Superior communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated technical skills and understanding of AI and Software Engineering skillsets
Ability to coach and provide guidance to team to best develop technical skills of engineering team members
Ability to work across the organization with multiple stakeholders including Executive Management
Previous success building relationships and understanding client needs to deliver exceptional products and experiences.
Ability to travel occasionally/as needed
Ability to obtain/maintain DOD Security Clearance
Preferred Skills (Not Required):Master's degree in Business, Management or other related area of study preferred
