Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm with a 30 minute lunch

DESCRIPTION OF WORKThis position acts as the District’s GIS coordinator and assists in integrating fire ecology into long and short-term operational planning to achieve ecosystem management goals at the site, landscape, forest, and district level. This position coordinates and manages prescribed burn plans to ensure plans are developed, reviewed, and maintained for optimum efficiency; works with District Rx Burn Boss and district managers to monitor and prioritize Rx burn projects based on emerging weather conditions and project opportunities; assists District managers and Emergency coordinator to update District Emergency and Fire Resources manual annually; and assists with District managers, service foresters, and Emergency Coordinator to provide wildfire and other natural emergency response risk maps within the state forest and district areas to support both District and local emergency responder preparedness and communications, and land use planning functions. Duties also include serving as the district coordinator on updating compartment and Landscape exams and other district level monitoring and learning projects; assisting in all levels of state forest resource management activities from compartment exams to timber sale administration; assisting with forest health and insect and disease activities; maintaining all basic wildland firefighter qualifications and serving as part of the district’s wildfire suppression response; and participating in Search and Rescue operations.Essential Functions:Negotiate rough terrain in bad weather.

Fight wildfire with hand tools, chainsaw.

Carry a 55-lb backpack tank uphill.

Use two-way radios per FCC regulations.

Become a PA Forest Fire Warden.

Become a State Forest Officer.

Effectively direct fire suppression operations.

Operate/maintain fire tools and equipment.

Good working knowledge of fire behavior and weather.

Prepare accurate investigative reports and fire bills.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITYQualifications:PA residency is currentlywaivedfor this title.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements -Two years of technical forestry experience, and an associate's degree in forest technology, forestry, forest management, forest ecosystem management, urban forestry, forest science, agroforestry, or a related forestry degree;ORa bachelor's degree in forest technology, forestry, forest management, forest ecosystem management, urban forestry, forest science, agroforestry, or a related forestry degree;ORa master's degree in forest technology, forestry, forest management, forest ecosystem management, urban forestry, forest science, agroforestry, or a related forestry degree.

Necessary Special Requirement -Possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
