Position Summary: Incumbent is responsible for collecting blood, urine, sweat, and other specimen material by venipuncture or capillary puncture procedure, withdrawing the correct specimen, placing it in the appropriate tube and labeling as established. (Arterial puncture is not done by laboratory personnel). Performs clerical and receptionist duties, maintains statistical data, processes reports, records and billing information. Manages incoming and outgoing telephone and fax information. Officially greets persons who enter the laboratory area. Enters and processes computer data.

A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: N/A.

B. Education: . Completion of a certified Phlebotomy course

C. Experience:

1. Previous knowledge of the proper technique of venipuncture is preferre

(6 months.)

2. Performs in accordance with delineated job responsibilities and

satisfactorily completes a yearly evaluation based on these

responsibilities.

3. Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively meet the

needs of the patient/internal & external customer.

D. Special qualifications: Must have the ability to effectively read, write and speak fluent English. Effective communication skills; both orally and written. Computer skills required. Ability to manage a team and work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care. Strong problem solving skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
