K-5 Educator - Field Trips (Weekdays, Part-Time)
Join us to work with kids and aircraft at the Hiller Aviation Museum!
Weekday educators teach hands-on science- and flight-themed lessons to students while working behind-the-scenes at a unique Museum located at one of California’s busiest small airports. Weekday Educators will be primarily responsible for facilitating field trip programming for K-12 audiences in addition other experiences including gallery programs and exhibits, educational assemblies, and family events. The position uses teaching and facilitation skills to work both at the museum, and off-site for programming as needed.
Educator positions pay $23-$26 per hour, depending on experience.
This position is year-round and is dynamic based on school field trip bookings. Field trip bookings are accepted year round but mostly fall between October through May. If eligible, staff may choose to supplement with other positions in the Education department such as Weekend Educators and/or Camp Staff positions.
Requirements
- Applicant must be 18 years or older
- A high school diploma or equivalent (such as a GED) is required. Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.
- Experience working with elementary or middle school children
- Effective classroom management skills
- Ability to engage and effectively communicate with diverse audiences in a variably-paced environment.
- Excellent customer service, public speaking, and listening skills.
- Experience working with youth in a traditional or non-traditional educational setting is required.
- Familiarity with science and/or aviation is a plus but not essential—educators comfortable with elementary-aged students can readily learn the aerospace-specific content with the provided curriculum and training.
Working Conditions and Schedule
This is an on-site role.
Field trip programs take place weekday mornings, with typical shifts of 2-4 hours between 8 AM – 2 PM
Shifts vary based on school reservations and instructor availability, but educators typically work 2-4 days of field trips per week, for a total of 30-40 hours/month with additional hours available for afternoon, weekend, and/or season camp shifts.
Optional Shifts Available for Educators
In addition to Weekday Educator shifts, weekend programs and seasonal Aviation Camp help is available, but not required.
Weekend Program Educator Shifts run between 3 to 8 hours depending on assignment.
Seasonal Aviation Camp shifts run year round during school breaks. Camp typically runs Monday-Friday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
