As a Retail Technology Product Manager - Starbucks Technology, you will work as part of a small team, focused on introducing new technology innovations into stores and optimizing their performance. To be successful, the product manager must have technical acumen and a passion for delighting product users with simple solutions, engaging experiences and tech that stands up to the rigors of our store environments. This role contributes to Starbucks success by assuming end-to-end responsibility for the strategic value, usability, and performance of assigned technology products used in retail stores, including digital music and signage technologies, beacons and sensors, or core POS and payment hardware. The product manager is responsible for engaging with business teams, other technology teams and vendors to assess technology options to meet business needs, oversee product selection and support successful deployment into stores under the direction of the manager. You will be looked to for technology guidance and be considered the technology expert, so a cool demeanor and wide range of knowledge in all aspects of retail technology hardware products is critical. Summary of Key Responsibilities
  • Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following\:
  • Manages product planning and development through day to day collaboration and decision making with a cross-functional team including architects, engineers, developers, designers and business or subject matter representatives
  • Designs and drives usability studies to inform product requirements and influence product design and experience
  • Defines and analyzes metrics that measure and benchmark product success
  • Recommends and plans innovative products and features
  • Drives optimization and process improvements between product, design, site management, and engineering teams
  • Holds engineering team accountable to agreed upon processes and schedules
  • Maintains product backlog and leads regular prioritization with business unit owners, stakeholders and leadership
  • Manages product defect backlog, determines priority of defects and ensures assignment to appropriate team
  • Works with larger product management organization to align on vision, strategy and roadmap
  • Ensures relevancy of product across international regions and brands
  • Monitors marketplace for new product innovations, competitors, and emerging technologies
  • Creates business case for new technologies and leads evaluation / proof of concept efforts
Qualification:

Summary of Experience
  • 5 Years Progressive experience in managing a retail technology hardware products

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Experience working in a high capacity, highly scalable distributed computing environment
  • Ability to build strong relationships and influence others across the organization and with external vendors
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Effective in dealing with ambiguity
  • Consistently uses communications skills to influence outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to use analytics and optimization tools to inform product planning and prioritization
  • Experience with point of sale architectures (POS), core POS hardware and critical adjacent processes
  • Understanding of Windows OS client / server environments and configuration management
  • Knowledge of storage systems, disk imaging technologies, and methods for hardening and securing technology
  • Basic understanding of internet and network standards
  • Understanding of high availability hardware and database systems
  • 5+ years experience in retail hardware product management
  • 5+ years experience in requirements and analysis / design, preferrably related to POS and drive thru solutions
  • 2+ years experience leading selection of new products or driving strategeies from conception to implementation
  • Bachelor's degree or MBA preferred and/or equivalent experience in product management
