JOB DESCRIPTION

Upon getting hired and accepted into the Detroit Police Academy Student Police Officers will start getting paid bi-weekly and receive full benefits (dental, vision, health, life insurance). The Detroit Police Academy is 6 months long and the schedule is Monday through Friday 7a-3p or 1p-9p. After graduating the Detroit Police Academy Student Police Officer will be MCOLES Certified and be sworn in as Detroit Police Officers. A Detroit Police Officer shall be responsible for performing a variety of duties related to the protection of life and property, enforcement of criminal and traffic laws, prevention of crime, preservation of the public peace, and the apprehension of criminals.

There are over 90 different units which include-Crime Analysis, Domestic Violence, Media Relations, Homicide, Human Recourses, I.T, K9, Gang Intel, Arson, Vice, Child Abuse, Recruiting, and Community Relations plus many more. Detroit Police currently has 13 precincts in the city, 3 different shifts for patrol (mornings, afternoons, and midnights) which are 8 hours each.

REQUIREMENTS

-Must be at least 18 years of age

-Possess a valid Driver’s License

-High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution

-U.S. Citizenship

-No Felony Convictions
