Job Description

Our busymedical billing office has an immediate need for a contingent Medical Records Clerk. The Medical Records Clerk maintains patient records containing all items required by State and Federal regulations. The clerk provides records information as requested by outside sources pursuant to company policy and in compliance with HIPAA. The Medical Records Clerk reports to the Billing Manager.

Essential Job Duties:

· Maintains medical records operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes

· Adds new material to patient records and creating new records as necessary

· Scanning and copying of records into patient charts

· Find and retrieve information from patient files

· Sort, classify and place materials into their proper location according to classification and identification information within the patient file

· Scan or read materials to determine how and where they should be filed

· Maintains patient confidence and protects practice operations by keeping information confidential; following release-of-information protocols

· Makes reasonable efforts to limit the use and disclosure of (PHI) Protected Health Information to the minimum necessary to perform the job

· Provides medical record information by answering questions and requests of patients, hospital staff, law firms, insurance companies, and government agencies

· Maintains the stability and reputation of the practice by complying with legal requirements

Qualifications

· High School Diploma or GED required

· RHIT certification preferred

· 1+ year of previous experience working with electronic medical records required

· Ability to interpret and assimilate information from computer EHR software

· Must have knowledge of medical terminology

· Must successfully pass a background check and drug screening

Minimum Competencies:

· Accurate, concise and detail-oriented

· Possesses good communication skills

In accordance with HIPAA, this position must maintain the confidentiality of the patient in all circumstances as well as company confidentiality. Ensures the confidentiality of data collected and stored is maintained.
