Aqueduct Technologies is seeking a Lead Platform Engineer for their customer, a reputable organization based out of the Greater Providence Area. This position is responsible for the administration of the organization’s server and storage systems environments. This position typically focuses on one or more of the standard server/storage platforms (e. g. Windows, Linux, NetApp, EMC, etc.) and is the second level in the Platform Engineer job family. The incumbent will work with other server team members to install, maintain, and upgrade hardware/software for these standard operating environments.The Lead Platform Engineer promotes the use of automated methods where feasible. This individual demonstrates Agile styles by acting as the guardian of processes, giving feedback, and mentoring other team members. The positions will be primarily remote, however, some intermittent onsite work may be required.
Essential Job Functions- Assists server and storage team customers with requirements definition and conducts procurement of server solutions.
- Performs installation and configuration of server/storage based systems per functional requirements within company and industry standard defined best practices.
- Performs operating system installations and upgrades including all software patches and security hot fixes.
- Develops operating system and storage services policies and procedures for the server environments.
- Under the defined parameters for server change management, assists application teams with upgrades of commercial and proprietary software.
- Monitors system performance, reliability, and standards compliance and optimizes systems by performing tuning and configuration management.
- Troubleshoots and resolves server and storage problems of both operating system and hardware level issues working with internal and external support resources as necessary.
- Researches, recommends and implements security strategies and ensures compliance. Manages server security through vulnerability assessments and the administration of anti-virus components, access control lists, and security patch levels.
- Ensures proper backup, restore and full system disaster recovery on server platforms.
- Implements and supports web servers, both internally and on the outward facing company network.
- Administers server and storage services including but not limited to core storage and virtualization and services such as Windows/Linux Operating Systems and layered software, Azure Cloud services, and Data Protection.
- Understands, develops, and troubleshoots automated methods for streamlining administrative functions and tasks.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of the organization’s business processes.
- Based on management direction and assigned tasks, plans and prioritizes daily workload and escalates issues to management in a timely fashion.
- Plans and executes medium to large scale projects within the server areas involving one or more separate IS and/or business units.
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills to achieve a cooperative working relationship both within the team and throughout the organization.
- Solves problems requiring knowledge of business processes as well as a sound knowledge of server and storage environments. Resolution is achieved through the use of a wide range of corporate, IS, and industry standard practices and procedures.
- Requires the use of judgment in the analysis of facts and circumstances surrounding problems with server/storage environments and formulation of the actions to be taken within the limits of standard or accepted I.S. practices.
- Determines when it is appropriate to involve peers within the organization, contacts outside the organization, or higher levels of management in order to expedite achievement of results.
- Develops accurate estimates of time and effort required to implement, upgrade, or modify operating system software configurations. Produces the necessary work/test plans for accomplishing these efforts in a complex multi-platform computing environment.
- Determination of appropriate hardware and operating system platform given a set of application requirements and known IS standards and practices.
- Independently determines, plans and acts on methods used to restore service to failed servers and/or storage environment.
- Successfully determines ways to manage shifting project risk factors with little to no management supervision resulting in no change to the project scope or schedule.

- Ability to leverage various trusted sources of information (articles, webinars, Internet, etc.) to gain accurate knowledge of current security threats, vulnerabilities, mitigating strategies to address them and then recommend and implement appropriate solutions for the organization.
- Significant experience working with vendors and resellers, managing vendor/reseller relationships, and bringing available resources to bear to solve problems or realize opportunities.
- Experience managing large complex projects, producing any necessary artifacts, and meeting critical milestones.
- Associates degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 5+ years in Information Technology or a related field.
- 3+ years administering and managing an enterprise environment.
- 3+ years administering and troubleshooting VMWare vSphere environments
- 3+ years administering and troubleshooting Cloud based environments (Azure/AWS).
- 5+ years administering and troubleshooting of Windows Server and Microsoft Active directory
- 5+ years administering and troubleshooting of Storage environments (NetApp, EMC, Pure).
- 3+ years administering and troubleshooting infrastructures that support Microsoft SQL server or Oracle databases.
- 2+ years managing IS projects of small to medium complexity.
- Comptia A+/Server + Certification or equivalent experience
- Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) preferred for Windows server roles
- Comptia Linux+ and/or RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer) preferred for Linux server roles
