Part-time Shelter Aide

Recruitment Description:

The City of Ellensburg has a vacancy for a part-time shelter aide in their animal control division. This is a non-benefited (no insurance) position that will perform daily cleaning and disinfecting of all kennels, cages, crates, and other animal related items; socialize, feed and care for pets; perform general facility maintenance.

This position is scheduled to work an average of 16 hours per week. The regular schedule for this position is 8:00 a.m. to noon, Sunday through Wednesday. Holiday hours are also part of the regular schedule.

Vacation, Holiday, and Employee Choice hours are earned on a pro-rata basis. Paid sick leave will accrue at a rate of one (1) hour for every paid 40 hours worked. Employees are eligible to begin using accrued paid sick leave on the ninetieth (90th) day after the commencement of his/her employment. This position is represented by the Office & Professional Employees Union, Local #8.

Regular City OPEIU applicants will be given first consideration.

Salary: $13.50 - $14.40/hour

Qualifications:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Working knowledge of animal restraint and care techniques. Valid WA State Driver’s License by date of hire and must maintain insurable driving record; First aid and CPR certification within 12 months of hire.

Special Requirements:

Applicants must agree to a credit check and be in good credit standing having no debts currently assigned to collections with a history that reflects no pattern of credit instability. The applicant must not have a pending garnishment or judgement which may cause undue hardship while employed with the agency, with the exception of child support. The hiring authority shall determine the status of applicant’s credit history on a case by case basis.
