Join the St. Michael’s Home for Children program of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston team as it is seeking a Shift Leader for

B-shift (2:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.).

A-Shift (6:30 a.m - 2:30 p.m).

As Shift Leader you are responsible for ensuring all children's safety and security through the provision of leadership and support to residential direct care staff on a given shift. The Shift Leader also assists in overseeing residential care services by coordinating activities, problem-solving & making decisions under the shelter coordinator and program director's direction. The Shift Leader conducts meetings, provides ongoing coaching and evaluative input on direct care staff, and participates in continuous quality improvement. The Shift Leader is a valuable part of the service delivery team.

  • You have a High School diploma or GED.

  • You are bilingual and proficient in English/Spanish.
  • You have a minimum of 1-year employment experience in the child welfare field working with children and adolescents.
  • You have supervisory experience.
  • You possess strong verbal and writing skills.
  • You have strong verbal and written communication skills, including command of the English language.
  • You can work well within a team approach.
  • You can cook, handle laundry, and house cleaning.
  • You have a valid Texas driver's license and insurance.
  • You can safely drive and transport clients on agency vehicles.
  • You have a pleasant disposition and professional demeanor.
  • You can appropriately handle and maintain confidential information.
  • You can prioritize work responsibilities, handle multiple tasks, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • You demonstrate knowledge and understanding of professional boundaries with children in care, staff, and volunteers.
  • You possess computer skills, i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.
  • You adhere toTexas Family Code {261.101},

    Texas Mandated Child Abuse Reporter: As a mandated reporter, you are required by law {Texas Family Code (261.101} to report all reasonable suspicions or knowledge of child abuse, neglect, or child sexual abuse to proper authorities. You are required to follow all agency policies and procedures related to the reporting of abuse and neglect,as well asimmediately report such events to the Texas Abuse Hotline (1-800-252-5400), your Program Director or VP, and the Catholic Charities Director of Quality & Compliance
  • You understand and support a trauma-informed system of care and committed to providing quality, trauma-informed treatment supportive services as per program guidelines and services.
  • You must be able to work on a flexible schedule as needed to meet work, program, and project deadlines
  • You can work the 2:30 pm to 10:30 pm shift or 6:30 am - 2:30 pm

What you

Deliver

  • You provide leadership, supervision, and evaluative input to youth care workers (YCW).
  • You work with the treatment team to develop and facilitate appropriate skills groups for clients.
  • You provide supervision and evaluative input to kitchen staff to ensure proper food safety practices, meal preparation, food usage, storage, menu completion, stock rotation, and maintain adequate pantry stock.
  • You oversee all children's activities, ensure children in care are closely supervised by youth care workers, and ensure that children in care are provided with transportation during educational and recreational outings.
  • You ensure that YCW/client ratios are always maintained per licensure guidelines, Cooperative Agreement, and program procedures.
  • You are responsible for the ongoing completion of accurate documentation.
  • You have responsibility for the shelter's security by ensuring all security, alarm, and surveillance systems are always functional.
  • You perform other duties as required by the supervisor.
