This team focuses on clinical, enterprise, and departmental level application systems design, implementation and support. Primary responsibilities include server and database administration, web, SharePoint administration, applications systems and support, systems integration, business intelligence, as well as working closely with the application owners to help with performance tuning, troubleshooting and upgrades.The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) is the most comprehensive academic health center in the UT System. Data Center Operations (DCO) under the direction of the Infrastructure Team at UTHEALTH, operates the university’s primary data centers at UCT and Guhn Rd. DCO also administers standards for other data centers that are a part of the UTHealth campus. DCO is comprised of three main areas: Infrastructure & Virtualization, Database & Application Support, and Datacenter & Operational Support.This position will work in our University Center Tower location at the corner of Fannin and Pressler. It is classified as an exempt role, and is eligible for all UTHealth benefits including medical coverage and a pension plan administered by the State of Texas. You will work normal hours during the typical work week. This opening is full-time.Ideal candidates will have the skill set outlined below but also experience with:Systems and database cloud support (AWS, Azure): including EC2, RDS, and DynamoDB exposure.SharePoint Administration: both On-Prem and SharePoint OnlineScripting/Programming Technologies: Powershell, .NET, Java, AWS CloudFormationKnowledge of clinical systems such as EPIC, AllScripts, CPS, Axiumand EClinical Works.Knowledge of monitoring tools such as Idera SQL Diagnostic Manager and Monyog for MySQL as well as SolarWinds – Server and App Monitor would be a plus.Position Key Accountabilities:Responsible for all procedures and processes necessary to ensure the safety and integrity of organizational servers, data systems, file structures, computer operating systems and computer system software.

Responsible for all activities related to system administration.

Assigns personnel to various projects, directs their activities, and evaluates their work.

Responsible for the installation, maintenance, configuration, security and integrity of computer operating systems and supporting software.

Implements operating system enhancements that will improve the reliability, safety and performance of the system.

Performs programming and testing.

Conducts studies of projected enhancements in hardware and software and presents recommendations to management.

Conducts performance measurement and evaluation of the computer system.

Determines and implements security and performance improvement activities.

Participates in all phases of total system planning and in the generation of justifications and specifications for facility requirements and enhancements.

Implements system software projects.

Plans and supervises training of systems administrator personnel.

Presents technical briefings.

Participates in formulation and implementation of installation standards and procedures.

Attends professional conferences and acts in place of supervisor as needed.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Technical Skills needed:Server Administration: Windows Server 2012+, includes installation, configuration, security and troubleshooting. Both and on-prem as well as cloud support knowledge.Client/Server Application support: Backend systems support for client-server applications. Understanding of web technologies such as IIS and Apache as well as CMS suites such as Word Press, Umbraco, Moodle, etc.Database Administration: Migrations, Backup/Restore, daily admin/monitoring, installation, clustering, HADR, performance tuning, disk-subsystems knowledge in relation to database performance for SQL Server, Oracle and MySQL environments.Organizational Skills: Ability to understand project methodology and project management. Use of Microsoft Teams and M365 tools such as Planner.Communication and Teamwork: Ability to communicate both written or orally to a wide variety of audiences. Must have the ability to think logically in solving problems, as well as implement workable solutions. Must be able to resolve all problems existing and newly discovered to move the project towards completion.Certification/Skills:Ability to configure and administer diverse servers and computer operating systems.
