Under direction and supervision of the Custodial Services Supervisor, performs custodial duties including general housekeeping in all areas and oversees project work in order to maintain assigned areas in a clean and orderly state. Inspects all area for quality control and turns in inspection sheet nightly to be reviewed by the custodial supervisor. Provides direct supervision as required in the absence of the custodial supervisor.

Typical Essential Functions:
In the absence of the Custodial Services Supervisor, provides direct supervision as required to custodial staff.
Oversees special project work and conducts inspections of work areas to ensure quality and cleanliness of work being performed. Completes inspection sheets for the Custodial Services Supervisor’s review
Ensure a safe working environment and reporting any safety concerns/issues to Supervisor
Makes recommendations to supervisor on improvements to equipment and cleaning methods used to improve operation and efficiency
Performs direct custodial duties in assigned areas
Sweeps, scrubs, mops, spot cleans, strips, and waxes floors; vacuums, spot cleans carpets and rugs using extractor, scrubbers, waxers, buffers, shampoo and upholstery cleaning equipment in the public and production areas
Cleans and sanitizes restrooms including stools, urinals, and lavatories. Stocks toilet paper, toilet seat covers, soap, and paper towel dispensers
Mops up spills as required and posts “Wet Floor” signs
Cleans and dusts walls, ceilings, louvers, vents, light fixtures, windows, and offices using wall and window washing equipment and/or other hand washing methods
Assists and directs student employees and other staff in the moving and arranging of furniture and equipment as assigned by the supervisor or requested by other staff members
Cleans offices and office furniture to include vacuuming or sweeping floors, and dusting and polishing desks, tables, chairs, cabinets, and other furnishings
Cleans hallways, lobbies, entryways, and outside areas adjacent to Campus Dining buildings. Keeps hallways clear of equipment and/or trash
Trains and directs assistant and regular custodians, student assistants, and intermittent employees in all custodial duties
Operates Corporation vehicles to move equipment, supplies or trash to and/or from various Campus Dining operations
Cleans, services, and maintains custodial equipment and custodial storage areas
Performs other duties as assigned
Directly supervise assigned employees. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Corporation’s policies and applicable laws and regulations
Supervise the daily activities of the department, including but not limited to, effective delegation of assignments, training and resources necessary to meet performance standards and assist employees in improving performance relevant to job requirements
Develop and implement an effective performance and department goals and objectives, provide performance evaluations, and implement appropriate counseling
Direct and monitor employees to ensure that they remain in compliance with policies and procedures
Subordinates may include: Custodians, part-time and student employees
Minimum Qualifications:
High school degree or equivalent
Minimum two years custodial/janitorial experience, including a minimum of one year of supervisory experience
Ability to operate hi speed buffer, low speed floor scrubber, auto scrubbers, vacuum cleaner, carpet extractor, hot water pressure washers, window washer, wall washers
Knowledge of methods, materials, chemicals, health and safety requirements, and the use and care of a wide variety of common tools and equipment used in custodial work
Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with faculty, staff, students and fellow employees
Follow both oral and written directions as well as department policies and procedures
Dilute cleaning chemicals safely and correctly according to specific labels
Be familiar with MSDS while handling cleaning chemicals
Use proper personal protective equipment, when needed during execution of responsibilities
Follow verbal and written directions, supervise student assistants, cooperate with, and assist fellow Campus Dining employees
Must possess a valid California driver’s license and have a driving record acceptable to our insurance company underwriters
Must become ServSafe certified within first year of service and maintain certification as required
A background check is required for all regular benefited positions
The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment
