Since 1985, DLS has been providing excellent laboratory results to help our patients receive the best care possible.JOB SUMMARYCollects blood specimen from patient by either venipuncture or skin puncture techniques. Accurately identifies patients and specimens according to prescribed procedure. Procures or receives other non-blood specimens. Verifies specimen integrity and specimen identification. May perform Forensic Toxicology (specimen collections, Breath Alcohol Testing), Point-of-Care and/or waived testing. May be required to drive a company vehicle.QUALIFICATIONSEducation/Experience High school diploma or equivalent required. Academic background with courses in mathematics and some biological sciences preferred. One-year patient care, medical laboratory, or equivalent public contact experience preferred. Previous phlebotomy experience preferred.Certification: Certification from ASCP, ASPT, or AMT as phlebotomist preferred.Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in English, both in verbal and written form. Ability to work effectively both independently and with a team. Excellent customer service skills.Other Qualifications:As applicable: Must possess a valid State of Hawaii (or equivalent) motor vehicle license and a current acceptable traffic abstract.JOB DEMANDSCommunication Demands:Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Able to write routine reports and correspondence. Able to effectively communicate information to internal and external customers in informal settings such as one-on-one and small group situations.Typical Physical Demands:Requires manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination, and corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as, but not limited to, gloves, lab coats, face shields, and respiratory equipment. May require distinguishing and identifying colors. May require standing, sitting, or frequent bending for extended periods of time. May require occasional lifting and carrying of supplies weighing up to 35 pounds. May require keying intermittently up to two (2) or more hours a day. May require repetitive manual motion such as but not limited to pipetting, capping and uncapping specimens. May require frequent walking, climbing stairs, and/or driving to various locations.Typical Working Conditions:Work environment includes conditions common to a hospital/laboratory environment, including working directly with biohazardous materials, potentially hazardous chemicals and patients with communicable diseases. Potential for inadvertent skin, eye mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials possible.Generally works in an indoor, air-conditioned area.Regular Full-Time PositionMust be available Sunday through Saturday from 11:00 pm to 7:00 am to include major and minor holidays.Must be flexible with schedule changes to meet operational needs.Equal Opportunity Employer/AA/Disability/Vet
