Whole Life Engineering Directorate (WLED) consists of several engineering disciplines, whose main objective is to influence hardware and systems early in their life cycle to assure effective operation, reliability, maintainability and safe and economical ownership by the customer and end user.At Seapower Whole Life Engineering section

, we provide a variety of Engineering capabilities to the Whole Life Engineering and Support Department, including:
  • Failure Reporting Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS)
  • Reliability Availability Maintainability Analysis (RAM)
  • Safety
  • Provisioning
  • Technical Documentation/Logistics Management Information
  • Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS)
We are conducting search for a

Sr. System Safety Engineer who will have the opportunity to contribute to multi-disciplinary teams with the objective to oversee system safety within major development programs:

Responsibilities will include:
  • System safety
  • Software safety
  • Occupational safety and health
  • Hazard management
  • Environmental compliance
  • Serving as a system safety technical expert across multiple programs.

This position can be a Salary Grade G09 or Salary Grade G10 based on the candidate’s qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position.

Required skills:
  • 6+ years’ engineering experience
    • At a Grade G09, 4+ years of experience in the aforementioned area along with a relevant Master's Degree may be considered for this job.
    • At a Grade G10, 6+ years of experience in the aforementioned area along with a relevant Master's Degree may be considered for this job

Desired Skills:
  • Experience with and knowledge of military system safety standards, including MIL-STD-882
  • Experience with the U. S. Navy Weapon System Explosive Safety Review Board (WSESRB)
  • Experience with occupational safety and health compliance standards and regulations applicable to both commercial systems and military weapon systems
  • Exposure to software safety standards, such as STANAG 4404 and the Joint Services Software Safety Committee Software System Safety Handbook
  • Experience in Safety Fault Tree, Mission Thread Analysis, and Failure Reporting and Corrective Action Systems (FRACAS)
  • Experience in Hazard Tracking databases, and hazardous materials identification and management
  • Experience with the U. S. Navy Weapon System Explosive Safety Review Board (WSESRB), the System Software Safety Technical Review Panel (SSSTRP) and Fuze and Initiation System Technical Review Panel (FISTRP)
  • Contractual bidding process experience with military customers
  • Professional certification as a Certified Safety Professional
  • Existing secret clearance is a plus

Required Education: BS in a STEM discipline or BA in Mathematics, Physics or Computer Science
