As part of the NiSource Transmission Integrity Team, the Gas Pipeline Engineer will be responsible for providing technical expertise in planning, executing, reviewing, analyzing and reporting all aspects of the Transmission Integrity program.This Engineer will focus on one or more of the following subject matter areas: transmission pipeline risk analysis and threat identification, pipeline system records review to establish and verify Maximum Allowable Operating Pressure, material validation, project management and data analysis of pipeline in-line inspection and direct assessment activities, coordination of preventive and risk mitigating measures, direction of the execution of multiple pipeline integrity process and data improvement projects, and maintenance and execution of transmission integrity management program and activities.Trained and experienced in the practical application of engineering analysis, the Engineer will act as SME in the field on pipeline engineering, integrity and regulatory compliance. Maintain a high level of focus on health, safety and environment, ensuring safety within all activities Identify and address pipeline safety issues and operational concerns within different environments throughout the natural gas transmission pipeline systems Perform a variety of engineering analyses on complex technical issues Develop processes and oversee compliance program activities, actively participate and contribute in the Pipeline Integrity Management programs Coordinates and project manages field assessment and material validation activities. Conducts analysis of pipeline risk and threats and develops preventive and mitigative strategies Completes all process documentation requirements of the Integrity Management Program Responsible for interpreting the pipeline safety code and for identifying and pursuing business opportunities available within the regulatory framework. Collaborates with Field Engineering, Project Management and Operations on strategic issues affecting pipelines. Guide operational integrity and regulatory compliance through development and maintenance of pipeline design, maintenance and construction standards, procedures and specifications. Actively pursues management of change for pipeline MAOP concerns Participates in industry events (PPIM, SGA,PHMSA, State Safety Conferences) and become a subject matter expert Participate in IURC Pipeline Safety audits, remain current with changing industry regulation and best practices that support safe work practices As SMS, provide training and engineering support to other technical employees, engineers and Operations staff to ensure regulatory and company policy compliance Support pipeline operations and emergency response as necessaryGraduate 9 by May 2021) from a four year ABET accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science in engineering. Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong organizational and planning skills Experienced in researching technical design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.Engineer Level II: Ranging from 2 to 4 years of demonstrated engineering competency, less will be considered if distinguished performance has been demonstrated Investigates and applies diverse engineering principles to determine optimal and practical solutions. Effectively communicates and project manages regarding Integrity Management field coordination with internal and external resources Supports project teams and management by developing, compiling, and providing technical data. Contributes to the development of budgets by scoping, estimating and recommending projects Effectively works independently and as a member of a team. Effectively manages and completes multiple smaller scale projects concurrently and timely. Prepares studies and makes sound recommendations. Provides sound technical expertise. Demonstrates knowledge if Integrity Management principles and experience with GIS tools Interprets applicable codes and regulations in a wide variety of specific and related specialized areas within the company. Solves analytical problems for non-routine issues. Communicates with peer technical customer representatives to identify problems and possible solutions. Maintains ongoing positive presence with customers, other stakeholders and outside entities (i.e. Producers, Pipelines, LDCs, vendors, etc.) through professional communications; able to handle and resolve situations with all parties. Applies formal planning techniques for major projects. Demonstrates ability to develop engineering standards, specifications, guidelines, policies and procedures. Recognizes and actively seeks value added improvements. Addresses all resources when planning projects (including technical and non-technical aspects when analyzing work). Reviews new regulations and develops impact analysis and reports for management and budget.Engineer Level III: All of the above criteria plus the following: Ranging from 4 to 9 years of experience, less will be considered if distinguished performance has been demonstrated. Effectively contributes as a member and/or leader of a team. Demonstrates ability to effectively implement investigative and problem solving techniques. Investigates/analyzes complex technical issues and drives to resolution. Interprets applicable codes and regulations and instructs Company and/or Industry personnel. Provides leadership, direction and assistance to technical employees and teams. Effectively manages and completes large scale projects. Recognized as a Company expert for functional knowledge. Communicates with customers, peers, and management to explain technical vision, understanding customer perception of the problem and the proper solutions. Develops cost effective engineering solutions Demonstrates ability to effectively negotiate and resolve disputes with a high degree of tact and diplomacy. Controls and monitors assigned budgets; communicates issues to appropriate budget owner. Effectively manages and directs outside resources. Contributes significantly to corporate and process goals. Actively participates in knowledge transfer to other employees. Demonstrates understanding and support of company initiatives and direction. Seeks out and identifies continuous improvement opportunities, champions implementation Leads Integrity Plan and Procedure audits and protocol reviews Reviews standards and operating practices and recommends changes Actively participates in industry committees and provides guidance in industry Desired Qualifications Experience in the utility industry, especially knowledge or experience related to Pipeline Integrity Experience with geographic information systems, data management and data analysis.
