Store Associates play a vital role in Store operations with a strong focus on creating a rewarding experience for customers, donors, and volunteers Sales Associates effectively utilize the point of sales system, give excellent customer service, and insure volunteer engagement. They work alongside volunteers or other employees, answering donor/customer questions in regards to pricing, homeownership, volunteering, and current projects.

Pay Rate: $13.75

Hours: 18-24 hours/week

Specific Job Functions

Customer Service

  • Greet customers and donors entering establishments ensuring each receives outstanding service by providing a friendly environment
  • Demonstrating leadership qualities and promoting a positive, safe, and clean work atmosphere
  • Other duties as needed
  • Collaborate with other team members to keep the sales floor area clean and organized
  • Answer telephone and assist callers in a professional and courteous manner
  • Explain store policy to customers including sold/hold policy
  • Use of radio communication between staff and volunteers

Point of Sale/Sales

  • Receive payment by cash, credit cards, or automatic debits. Maintain a high level of cash management for accuracy
  • Assist loading customer purchases using proper safety practices and equipment

Pricing/Staging

  • Intake appropriate donations answering customer/donor questions, and provide information on procedures and accepted items. Maintaining an awareness of scheduling needs of donation pickup
  • Stock merchandise paying attention to presentation, correct department placement, marking prices on shelves and items
  • Assist in maintaining the back stock room and setting up merchandise displays on the sales floor
  • Use of the internet to research donated merchandise to ensure fair and appropriate pricing

  • Establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with both staff and volunteers

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 1 year of customer service/retail store related experience is a plus.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Must satisfy the completion of a background check per South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity policy
  • Willing to have a flexible schedule and able to work the hours needed to meet Store needs.

Skills

  • Must demonstrate the ability to learn our POS (Point of Sale) system.

  • Ability to accurately and safely operate store equipment such as computers, pallet jacks, etc.

  • Able to read, count, write, and communicate effectively ensuring correct completion of all documentation.

  • Good oral and written communication skills and an ability to relate to people with diverse backgrounds.

  • Must be able to organize, plan, and prioritize work to completion.

  • General knowledge of building and construction a plus.
