Senior Digital Fundraiser

We are hiring a Senior Digital Fundraiser to take on a key role in our community giving and digital teams, and help us hold some of the world’s biggest corporate and government polluters to account. Over the past two years, Stand.earth’s online community has grown from 100,000 to 380,000 people strong, and our donor base has grown to more than 8,000 donors. Now we’re looking for someone to take on a newly-created role and bring this fundraising work to the next level.

If you can whip up a compelling email appeal with your eyes closed, care deeply about building power online to win campaigns, love optimizing donation pages, and want the option to work from the comfort of your own home, then read on! This might be the perfect role for you.

We encourage applicants to apply by December 14, 2020. This position is open until filled.

About Stand.earth

Stand.earth is a nonprofit environmental organization working to create a world where respect for people and the environment comes first. Our campaigns challenge destructive corporate and governmental practices, demand accountability, and create solutions that support all of us — and the environment and climate upon which we depend. Stand’s strategic approach and fierce determination have yielded extraordinary results: Since 2000, we’ve secured the protection of 65 million acres of wilderness, shifted billions of dollars of corporate purchasing toward responsible options, and transformed the environmental practices of more than 100 major U.S. corporations. Stand.earth operates in the United States and Canada.

Stand recognizes and respects the sovereignty of First Nations and tribes, as well as the rights of Indigenous Peoples and frontline communities. These communities are often first and most directly impacted by environmental pollution and climate change, and they provide critical leadership in developing solutions.

Pollution, climate change, and corporations’ bad behavior disproportionately hurts the most marginalized people in society — including people of color, people from working class backgrounds, people with disabilities, women and LGBTQ+ people. To develop transformative solutions, these communities must be centered in the work we do. Hence, we strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or who are members of other historically marginalized communities.

The Position

We are seeking a Senior Digital Fundraiser who is fueled by a passion to build power and win campaigns through small dollar donations, and who’s excited about creating strategic online content & tactics to engage and grow our online community. Reporting to the Digital and Campaign Strategies Director, the Senior Digital Fundraiser will work across highly collaborative teams that include campaigners, organizers, development specialists and other digital staff in Canada and the US.

They will play a leading role in our community giving team and their primary responsibility will be coordinating and growing our online fundraising program. They’ll also play a key role as a digital campaigner on one of our corporate campaigns – for example, helping to transform the shipping industry’s climate impact by accelerating a transition away from toxic fuels.

This is a full-time exempt position with excellent benefits. Salary will be commensurate with experience and location, and will likely be within the range of $55,000-75,000 USD or $58,500-87,750 CAD.

This role will be based in the US or Canada, in Pacific or Mountain time zone (working hours are 9am-5pm Pacific time). At least to start with, the role will be remote from the comfort of the candidate's own home. Once the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic has passed, we hope there will also be the option to work out of one of our hub offices.

Key responsibilities:

  • Leading the day-to-day work of the community giving team, meeting our fundraising goals, and designing and implementing strategies to increase both one-time and recurring gifts

  • Writing compelling fundraising content that mobilizes small donations to power our campaign work
  • Together with our digital team and Donor Services Associate, working to maintain and improve our online fundraising systems and processes, including donation pages, email, social media platforms, and donor communications
  • Training campaigners and organizers to think up smart, effective fundraising tactics and craft compelling email fundraising asks
  • Working as a part of the digital team to develop and execute online mobilization, organizing and fundraising strategies for one of Stand.earth’s corporate campaigns across all digital platforms

Who you’ll be:

  • Experienced at online donor engagement, with a proven track record executing online fundraising strategies across email and other platforms
  • An excellent communicator with top-notch writing, copy editing and communications skills
  • An enthusiastic technologist, with your fingers on the pulse of emerging digital tools and a keen interest in testing and optimizing online content
  • An adept project manager, who can foster a positive and collaborative team environment while setting and tracking team priorities
  • Comfortable working in an entrepreneurial, primarily virtual work environment where ideas, experimentation and follow-through are core team values
  • Familiar with the Leadnow / MoveOn / Avaaz model of online campaigning and experienced using advocacy tools like Engaging Networks, NewMode, Action Network or similar
  • Passionate about climate justice and environmental protection, and juiced up by the thought of convincing governments and corporations to make meaningful and lasting change
  • Committed to equity, racial justice, authentic communications, and continual learning

There isn’t a formal educational requirement for the role, and there will be opportunities for learning and professional development.

In addition, it’s nice but not essential for you to have some of the following skills or experiences:

  • Experience managing and growing a large email list, either organically or through paid channels
  • Social media management experience
  • Knowledge of HTML and CSS
  • Experience using data and experimentation tools like Google Analytics, Share Progress, Optimizely or similar
