Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other US federal agencies, all over the world.

The Civil Engineer will be responsible for providing technical analysis and engineering design as part of a multi-discipline team. He/she will support the development of designs related to site work, facility renovations, and new construction as part of operations and maintenance of infrastructure at a military facility.

The location of the performance will be in Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Island.

Key responsibilities:

Support the development of project estimates and will provide technical advice to the client in the execution of civil construction works

Responsible for application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria in support of civil works for design and construction projects

Perform analysis of existing site conditions for new projects, identifying features requiring repair, modification, or replacement as part of the scope definition process

Perform field assessment of existing drainage systems, water and wastewater systems, concrete slabs and foundations, and other features of existing military facilities

Perform design work for new construction, renovations, and improvement projects ensuring adherence with UFC criteria and other applicable codes

Devise approach for resolving problems, develop and/ or revise drawings, specifications, calculations, charts, and graphs

Support constructability reviews of designs at specific completion stages, support the design clarification process and monitor fieldwork as needed to support completion of repairs and construction

Review subcontractor and other designs for compliance to applicable codes and accepted engineering practices

Interpret and adapt traditional methods and approaches in developing design calculations, layouts, drawings, and specifications that support project objectives and standards

Provide civil design services including preparation of civil/site work drawings and evaluations

Actively participate in the review of design packages and support the resolution of design issues and omissions

Comply with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and performs work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment

Perform construction management duties including reviewing design and construction documents and submittals, performing and documenting daily inspections, and assisting with project punch lists

Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as needed.

Qualifications to be successful in the role:

Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited US college or university

Professional Engineer (PE) in any US State is required

Strongly prefer a candidate who has held a PE license for at least 5 years

Minimum 10 years’ experience in the engineering industry, prefer experience on government projects

Experience in Civil design, roadway design, drainage, and/or water and wastewater, highly required

Knowledge of UFC, IBC and other relevant codes

Proficient in creating designs simple enough for local construction contractors to complete, and meet the requirements of the PWS

Excellent communications, effective leadership and interpersonal skills

Capable of complete design services including planning and siting

Proficient in using Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, etc.

Previous experience working on US Government and military domestic and international projects preferred

Familiarity with military programming rules and documentation is desirable

Must be US Citizen.
