Part-Time Beef/Dairy Calf Feeder

The University of Wisconsin - Madison, Department of Animal and Dairy Science, is currently seeking hardworking, reliable part-time employees to become Animal Research Technician at the Beef Grazing and Nutrition Research Centers located on the Arlington Agricultural Research Station in Arlington, WI. These beef research facilities encompass an ever changing cattle herd which may include both beef and dairy cattle during various stages of growth. This industry leading department is in need of employees who are willing to learn, and demonstrate a high level of attention to detail in order to help ensure the highest levels of animal care and the collection of accurate research data.

This position is involved in all aspects of the research operation, including but not limited to, feeding, cleaning, handling, and animal health observations at the facility. The incumbent in this position must work independently to feed and care for individually housed neonatal calves, as well as assist in other areas of the facility as the need arises. This position will require the individual to be able to follow all standard operating procedures as set forth by the facility and the research being conducted.

The schedule for this position will vary based on the operational need and the amount of animals currently on research protocols. The incumbent will need to commit to working in an every other weekend rotation for afternoon calf chores when bottle fed calves are present at the facility. Dependent on operational need, the incumbent to this position will likely cover shifts from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM, with an average of 12-20 hours per week. A minimum compensation of $15.00/hour will be offered to the selected part-time candidate.
