The Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) located at the Ann Arbor, MI, VA Medical Center is seeking a full-time Cook, food service worker, to provide quality service to our nation's veterans.
COOK HOURS-5:00AM- 1:30PM WEEKENDS OFF, HOLIDAYS OFF
FOOD SERVICE WORKER 7:00AM - 3:00PM WEEKENDS OFF
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
· Performs a variety of cooking duties in support of VCS food production services and will assists with the preparation, presentation and subsequent serving of prepared food items.
· Performs a full range of simple cooking by preparing and cooking items.
· Demonstrates excellent customer service skills in daily interactions with customers, i.e., communication, listening, empathy, conflict resolutions, and maintaining a positive attitude.
· Will be subjected to hot and cold temperatures.
Experience:
· Excellent customer service skills
· Ability to read and interpret instructions and perform basic arithmetic used in food preparation and ability to follow standard recipes
· Minimum of one (1) year experience in preparing and cooking food items
· Experience in proper food handling, sanitation principles, proper dating/FIFO, and temperature monitoring to safeguard food against spoilage and waste.
· Requires constant standing, walking, and frequent bending.
· Must be able to lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.
· Ability to work evenings and weekends
