Test circuits and components of malfunctioning telecommunications equipment to isolate sources of malfunctions, using test meters, circuit diagrams, polarity probes, and other hand tools.

Test repaired, newly installed, or updated equipment to ensure that it functions properly and conforms to specifications, using test equipment and observation.

Inspect equipment on a regular basis to ensure proper functioning.

Repair or replace faulty equipment such as defective and damaged telephones, wires, switching system components, and associated equipment.

Remove and remake connections to change circuit layouts, following engineering plans, work orders or diagrams.

Demonstrate equipment to customers and explain how it is to be used, and respond to any inquiries or complaints.

Analyze test readings, computer printouts, and trouble reports to determine equipment repair needs and required repair methods.

Adjust or modify equipment to enhance equipment performance or to respond to customer requests.

Run appropriate power, ground, or coaxial cables.

Check antenna positioning to ensure specified azimuths or mechanical tilts and adjust as necessary.

Replace existing antennas with new antennas as directed.

Install all necessary transmission equipment components, including antennas or antenna mounts, surge arrestors, transmission lines, connectors, or tower-mounted amplifiers (TMAs).

Conducts self safely at all times, ensures a safe area for others, and completes required training, assessments and reports timely.

Maintain balance & body equilibrium; Routine movement on slippery, uneven/unstable surfaces.

Lift, pull, push, and carry a load. Material handling; Medium work - exerting up to 50+ pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Performs proper lifting technique from crouch to lift.

Grasp, crouch, kneel, crawl, reach in any direction; Install & maintenance of telecom & electrical boards and/or componentry where located, utilize small hand tools (manual and automated), and computerized equipment with small controls.

Standing & remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of up to 12-15 hours, with occasional breaks. Telecom installation & maintenance.

Climbing; ascending or descending ladders up to 30 feet high, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, & poles using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. General installation.

Heights; working on scaffolding and towers up to 30 feet high. [Tower specific JD requires over 30’ up to 300’often]

Hazards; Includes a variety of physical conditions, proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles and large equipment, electrical current, toxic substances requiring PPE, confined spaces, etc.

Environment – The worker is subject to extreme cold: Temperatures typically -10 up to -50 degrees below freezing wind chill for periods of up to 12 hours, with occasional breaks. Requires Arctic Gear. Other factors – outside remote environmental conditions such as high wind, low humidity, and isolation.

No Telecommuting. Tasks must be performed at NSTI or Customer site location(s).Education and Experience Required:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Post-secondary education, documented electronics education preferred.

At least 2 years verifiable experience in some combination of required skillsSuccessful candidates MUST:

Live in the State of Alaska or be willing to permanently relocate.

Possess active valid Driver’s License, and possess a valid AK DL within 30 days of hire.

Pass a pre-employment COVID Screenings.

Pass a pre-employment DOT drug & alcohol screening with on-going program participation.

Pass fitness-for-duty testing.

Pass personal background screening.

Be able to fulfil rotational assignments by travel within state of Alaska approx. 50% - 75%
