Financial Aid Counselor - 21000039 DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Financial Aid Counselor to serve on its Financial Aid Programs team. This position provides students and their families financial aid-related services through activities including but not limited to giving presentations, counseling students about the financial aid process, awarding various aid programs, and educating students about the importance of good financial management. Related duties include helping to facilitate and support student-centered initiatives and provide leadership, counseling, and guidance to students, families, and the University community. The incumbent will interact with staff from various levels within or outside of the University. In addition, this position will have administrative oversight of specific programs such as scholarships and endowments, and other financial aid awards to ensure funds are properly awarded, disbursed, and accurately reconciled. These initiatives will contribute to safeguarding the University in the area of compliance with financial aid related regulations. Serving under the Financial Aid Programs team, the position also serves as part of the Financial Aid team of the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid. Some evening and weekend work required A Bachelor's degree is required, but a Master's Degree is preferred. The employee must have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of regulations for administering student financial aid programs, financial aid need analysis, and processes. Previous experience administering and awarding scholarships is preferred. Incumbent must have considerable experience working with specific financial aid programs and a good working knowledge of FERPA rules and regulations and ability to ensure compliance. Strong oral and written communication skills are a must with experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint), PeopleSoft, CampusLogic and Perceptive Content imaging system. Employee must have the ability to work well with a diverse community and groups with different levels of technical ability. The ability to develop and maintain effective professional working relationships with individuals at all organization levels on campus is critical, along with the ability to work independently and with a team of colleagues. A good working knowledge of time management techniques, ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems or concerns. Able to plan, organize, and prioritize work assignments and projects. Able to perform work under pressure to meet student service and operational demands.
