The ideal candidate has spent most or all of their time in a Blood bank. Not bouncing around the other disciplines within the lab space.

-While AAB isn't required, the hiring manager is more interested in those who have it Blood Bank

Required:
  • Registered Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through the American Society of Clinical
  • Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent registration.
  • Bachelor of Science or Associate of Science Degree in related field.
  • Five years of laboratory bench experience as a Laboratory Technologist with a minimum of three years of experience in a Blood Bank.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. strong computer skills.

Preferred:
  • Current certification as a Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or equivalent certification.
  • Problem solving skills.
location: CLEVELAND, Ohiojob type: Permanentsalary: $85,000 - 90,000 per yearwork hours: 8am to 4pmeducation: Bachelors responsibilities:Technical Responsibilities:Oversees, supports and makes contributions to patient safety by:a. Providing a safe environment for patients.b. Identifying and correcting root causes of errors.c. Implementing systems to prevent errors.d. Subscribing to the principles of responsible reporting of adverse occurrences, near misses, and safety concerns.e. Providing evidence-based care.1. Works with appropriate staff to develop employee performance standards to ensure optimal work flow efficiency.2. Develops and implements orientation and training programs; ensures adequate on-the-job training of all assignedemployees; performs and documents competency testing.3. Participates in departmental quality improvement programs; coordinates data collection and analysis for qualityimprovement/assurance reports as required; implements changes to work flows/protocols in response to identifiedoperational problems.4. Reviews all documentation of equipment maintenance and service activity on a regular basis to ensure compliancewith all maintenance protocols.5. Maintains working knowledge of both Hospital and Laboratory Information Systems.6. Maintains cost-effective and adequate inventories for assigned area(s).7. Remains current with technical advances and management developments in related fields; serves as a technicalresource for theoretical/practical aspects of laboratory policies/procedures.8. Confers with appropriate staff on a regular basis to ensure that reviews of test methodologies, quality controlprotocols, and test results meet all laboratory standards.9. Assists staff with instrument/system problems to minimize delays in testing and result reporting.10. Reviews quality control results and documentation in a timely manner; implements/documents problem resolutionsand corrective actions.11. Remains current with Hospital Information System (HIS) for outpatient registration and visit processing.12. Prepares the laboratory for assigned area(s) for successful inspections by the College of American Pathologists(CAP) and the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB). Administrative Responsibilities: 1.Schedules staff to ensure optimal work station coverage; completes work schedules in a timely manner in accordancewith Hospital policies; ensures that staff levels meet workload needs, and adjusts to changing service requirements.2. Maintains accurate time keeping records for payroll and attendance; monitors corrections to employee time cards;upholds and implements MHS attendance policy standards.3. Evaluates the performance of assigned employees; implements corrective action(s) as needed while followinghospital guidelines.4. Interviews job candidates; makes recommendations regarding employment, promotions, transfers, and terminations.5. Ensures that all departmental policies regarding safety, quality control, and accreditation standards are met withindesignated laboratory areas (i.e. American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), Food and Drug Administration (FDA),Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), The Joint Commission (TJC), The College of AmericanPathologists (CAP), and Health Care Financial Administration (HCFA)).6. Reviews and updates all laboratory test procedures in a timely manner; confers with appropriate staff for advice andapproval of procedural changes.7. Resolves inter- and intra-departmental problems in a timely, systematic, and diplomatic manner.8. Meets or exceeds budgetary goals for assigned area(s).9. Interacts with intra-departmental management groups to address laboratory issues and solve problems on a regularbasis.10. Assists with annual budget preparations and monthly variances; monitors and adjusts expenditures to ensurecompliance with budget allocation.11. Conducts regularly scheduled staff meetings.12. Communicates the state of assigned area(s) or off-site laboratories to Pathology Administration on a frequent andregular basis.13. Coordinates and/or promotes continuing education for laboratory personnel via MHS/external offerings and/oropportunities.General Responsibilities:1.
