A position for a

Public Health Communication Specialist is currently available for a for a highly talented and motivated individual to join our team in support of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) – COVID-19 Activation. This position is for fulltime employment with the ability to earn extra hours in support of this demanding response work. Initial location is in a telework role due to COVID-19 restrictions and is expected to transition to the Roybal Campus located in Atlanta, Georgia. This role is 100% at the customer’s location.

The purpose of this position is as a Communication Specialist with one of the task forces under the CDC COVID-19 Activation. Specialists are assigned to Incident Management System (IMS) leadership teams with the responsibility to coordinate, organize, and manage team communication activities as well as coordination tasks to assure the operational needs of a team.

Role will require work on weekends and nights as well as normal weekday hours as scheduled by response leadership.

Responsibilities include:
  • Synchronize a variety of team activities to include the operational tempo, support requirements, personnel deployments, and ensuring leadership is appraised of all relevant communications and assigned tasks.
  • Attend Emergency Operations Center Day One and other required trainings
  • Co-Manage and triage assigned functional Outlook mailbox(s) and MS Teams site(s) in accordance with established standard operating procedures to include requests for information/actions and ensuring all relevant stakeholders are kept informed.
  • Attend required meetings
  • Draft and Revise Communications and PRs (Prepared Responses)
  • Put revised PRs in Clearance Portal and manage the Clearance Process
  • Develop and maintain an inventory of Team/Task Force-owned content
  • Update Web content owned by the Team/Task Force as needed (as new protocols, treatments, and circumstances arise)
  • Learn the workflow and e-mail lifecycle for the Functional Mailboxes
  • Use decision-making skills regarding how to answer inquiries, and where to triage and re-triage inquiries to other task forces.
  • Escalate sensitive inquiries as appropriate
  • Follow-up on non-replies for outstanding or problematic e-mail inquiries
  • Develop working knowledge of the Triage Trees, Prepared Responses, CDC Info Agent processes, and other Task Force areas of topic coverage
  • Update Info notes for Frequently Asked Questions
  • Communicate effectively with leadership ensuring the best support possible of the team lead and deputy(s).
  • Collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders that represent functional positions within the IMS structure and external partners outside of the COVID-19 Activation to include at the Federal, state, local, territorial, and tribal jurisdictions.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's in related field and 4+ years related experience required, or Master's and 2+ years related experience
  • Those authorized to work in the United States are encouraged to apply. We are unable to sponsor at this time. Candidates with the ability to obtain a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) clearance
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail

Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Superior written and verbal skills. Must write succinctly and clearly and explain complex situations in plain English to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience supporting CDC activation activities and completion of ICS100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800 coursework
