The ideal candidate will sit locally in Kansas City and can expect to travel up to 75%. As a member of the NIC team, you will play a crucial role to help drive the application and adoption of emerging technologies to create effective and citizen-centric, digital government solutions funded by our payment services.

SUMMARY: The Business Development Executive will have responsibility for engaging and selling NIC’s Payment Platform and solutions into state and local government agencies and departments. As such, the sales associate will be required to develop key relationships and a pipeline of sales opportunities across a defined region. The sales associate will also be responsible for executing sales objectives and initiatives to satisfy all growth, revenue, and quota objectives. The Sales Associate’s responsibilities will cover key account management, sales, business development, contract vehicles, and key messaging and positioning required to aggressively grow NIC’s business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Identify, develop, and secure new contracts for NIC’s Payment Platform and Solutions
  • Become a subject matter expert on NIC’s payment platform, solutions, and market approach
  • Define and execute a sales plan for identifying new opportunities across all fifty states and associates local government agencies
  • Secure meetings and conduct presentations and demonstrations with decision makers
  • Follow up with and keep prospect states informed of NIC’s successes.
  • Monitor national, local and industry-specific media for information and intelligence to drive new sales
  • Maintain high level of understanding of current government trends, competitors, issues and technologies, including those of NIC partner states
  • Represent NIC at association meetings, state meetings, internal NIC meeting and other meetings and events as required
  • Assist in the review of and response to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) issued by government entities within the region, including analyzing requirements and preparing state specific responses based on intelligence from previous meetings and research
  • Monitor and analyze state procurement sites for RFPs and other purchasing solicitations
  • Utilize the NIC CRM solution and update regularly activities, meetings, opportunity details and pipeline management
  • Other Responsibilities Assigned by Manager

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in business, marketing, or related field
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in selling complex, enterprise SaaS solutions and services to state government agencies and departments
  • Track record of meeting or exceeding sales quota in prior roles
  • Comfortable with interacting personally with people in government and business settings
  • Strong verbal, presentation and written skills
  • Experience working with state and local government executive management
  • Ability to manage strategic client relationships across state and local client sets
  • Ability to evaluate and anticipate market and client needs and collaborate across the organization to develop innovative solutions
  • Familiarity with a variety of the government sales field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to be self-managed and motivated
  • Travel, generally up to 75% of the month (post COVID)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  • Preference for prior experience in selling payment solutions to government, higher education, or healthcare organizations
