Job Summary: The Senior Database Administrator is expected to have mastered most database skills and be able to teach those skills. In addition, the Senior Database Administrator should be able to provide guidance to application developers on proper data access strategies, provide advice to all levels of the organization about how their requirements will impact infrastructure, and more importantly the changes to infrastructure that will be required to meet those needs. This position requires a minimum of 8 years of experience working with SQL Server, and a minimum of 10 years of overall IT experience.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Advanced performance tuning
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills and ability to resolve issues while minimizing downtime and risk
  • Mentorship in database technologies and procedures
  • Create and manage monitoring systems to provide accurate and actionable alerts
  • Proactively assess performance
  • Capacity planning and scaling
  • Specification of hardware and other infrastructure for enterprise-scale projects
  • Recommend and implement technologies for database storage and transfer

Required Skills:
  • Advanced performance tuning
  • Relational database design
  • Enterprise data management
  • Diverse troubleshooting skills
  • Management of large, high volume replication topologies
  • Monitoring and alerting
  • Understanding of at least one high level programming language
  • Ability to script tasks for automation
  • Ability to plan and manage large scale backups and the security and redundancy of those backups
  • Familiarity with multiple database management systems (MySQL, Postgres, MariaDB, etc)
  • Familiarity with non-relational data management systems (DynamoDB, ElasticSearch, etc)
  • Ability to implement and maintain high availability solutions such as AlwaysOn, Failover Clustering, and MaxScale

Optional Skills:A Senior Database Administrator should have familiarity with at least 2 of the following:
  • AWS EC2 and VPC configuration
  • Powershell
  • Python
  • Bash scripting
  • Azure Data Services
  • PowerBI
