Data Engineer

Hi, Position: Data Engineer Location: Waltham, MA Duration: 6 month contract-to-hire Position Description: Our Client is looking for a Data Engineer to join their team on a long term, contract-to-hire basis. The Data Visualization Engineer is a collaborative role on the our Client's Solution Delivery Data Management Team responsible for supporting internal stakeholders, including Supply, Engineering, Regulatory, Strategy, Finance, HR, and others. This candidate will work closely with Product Owners, Technical Leads, as well as project leads to drive project planning and execution of complex enterprise Analytic solutions within set project targets and deadlines. Key Responsibilities: 1. Designing, developing, and maintaining business intelligence solutions. 2. Presenting information through reports and visualization 3. Develop operational analytics using descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive models accordingly to improve business outcomes using data warehousing & analytic solutions, 4. Create ad-hoc data models, reports and analysis as needed to support business requirements 5. Work with business users to define and prototype solutions on Power BI and related o365 framework. 6. Responsible for documenting requirements, technical specifications and reference materials for reports and visualizations 7. Experience working with data gateway, data integration, self-service data preparation. 8. Experience in requirement analysis, design, and prototyping. 9. Strong understanding of Power BI application security layer models. 10. Strong understanding of data modeling techniques for large scale BI initiatives. 11. Participate in daily scrum meetings and collaborate with other agile team members. 12. Mentor and provide guidance to new and junior data engineers. 13. Interpret written business requirements and technical specification documents. 14. Perform quality checks from business requirements to user acceptance testing. Required Skills: 1. 3+ years of experience with Power BI 2. 5+ years of experience writing complex queries and query optimization 3.10+ years of working experience in data warehousing or data analytics/visualization projects. 4. 7+ years of professional database development with T-SQL / SQL Server 5. Experience in building DAX expressions 6. Interest in / experience with public cloud data platforms such as Azure (SQL DW, Data Lake, Data Factory) 7. Agile development methodologies including SCRUM 8. Demonstrated ability to partner with cross-functional teams, subject matter experts, and architects 9. Demonstrated ability to drive sustainable process changes that realize significant business value Desired Skills (not required but candidate will have exposure to these skills in this role): 1. Familiarity with Atlassian toolset (JIRA, Confluence) 2. Experience with machine learning, Python, or R is a plus.
