Facebook is seeking a Data Center Design Engineering Manager to lead in-house engineers and architects in the technical evaluation of new data center building concepts and prototypes. The Technical Strategy team provides technical leadership in mid- to late-stage credentialing of data center design concepts and supports teams in executing these concepts at a global, enterprise scale. Our data centers are the foundation upon which our software operates enabling innovation for the company. Building and operating data centers the "right" way from the day they go live is synonymous with ensuring capacity availability and capital conservatism. The data center design team approaches facility design from the chips on the server boards to the facility mechanical and electrical distribution systems which ensure and maximize efficiency of our compute infrastructure. This position is full-time.

  • Support the career growth of high-performance team members holding them accountable for success
  • Manage internal team in the technical evaluation of first of kind concepts and prototypes, including the development, design and construction execution management of data center critical infrastructure systems. Includes consultant management
  • Support the team in change management processes establishing as a standard approved engineering concepts or building prototypes
  • Support the team in updating documentation, including standards, specifications and engineering criteria
  • Support the teams in providing critical system operational guidance to data center facility operations teams
  • Support the data center commissioning (Integrated System Test) for data center concepts under evaluation
  • Research new designs, materials, and construction methods for data center gear, assemblies, and related components
  • Develop budgets and complex business case analyses
  • Travel to data center sites for engineering studies, electrical systems audits, startup testing, and full commissioning, as required
  • Support equipment failure or power outage related incident Root-Cause-Analysis
  • Respond on an as-needed basis to emergencies
  • Engage with corporate user groups and stakeholders
  • Engage with the other management teams
  • A BS in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical) or bachelor degree in the field of architecture
  • Professional registration
  • Minimum of twelve (12) years professional experience in focused on critical facilities (mission critical, industrial, healthcare, aviation, etc.)
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful management experience of engineering or design teams focused on critical facilities (mission critical, industrial, healthcare, aviation, etc.)
  • Experience with high voltage (115kV, 12kV) substation design, mission critical power distribution, UPS, PDU, and Building Management/Automation Systems
  • Working experience of industry standards, building codes and safety standards including NFPA, IBC, NEC, etc.
  • Cross-discipline experience of mission critical facility systems
  • Conflict management experience
  • Change management experience
  • Trouble-shooting and analytical experience
  • Experience solving complex engineering challenges under pressure, using data where applicable
  • Effective communications experience
  • Experience working with AutoCad, Revit, Bluebeam, and discipline specific software (e.g., SKM)
  • Masters Degree in Engineering or Architecture
  • Experience in an owner's representative
  • Experience working within a large (500+) design, engineering, and construction organization
  • Teaching experience
  • Record of published research or technical writing
