At Facebook Reality Labs, FRL, our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of augmented, virtual, and mixed-reality experiences. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Electrical Engineer to join our team, whose mission is to work with a broad range of multidisciplinary research to advance the state of the art for wearable interaction devices. We are specifically looking for a candidate with Consumer Electronics fundamentals, integration of electronics into soft and flexible systems, and who can work with a team of researchers who are working in functional garments and textiles, haptic rendering techniques, psychophysics, and AR/VR specific human-computer-interaction paradigms. More broadly, the chosen candidate will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers, designers, and engineers, and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.
- Frame, scope, plan, and execute multidisciplinary research for wearable interaction devices for AR/VR aligned with broader research strategy
- Work with researchers, designers, engineers, and other roles, to drive softgoods solutions for wearable AR/VR interaction devices
- Connect and drive collaborations with vendors, academic, and industry labs to advance research in relevant areas
- Work with test teams to understand reliability matrix of specific technology and perform FA to root cause failure modes for future improvements
- Thrive in a dynamic, ambiguous, and cross-disciplinary environment
- BS or higher in Electrical Engineering or equivalent industry experience
- 4+ years of experience in the electrical engineering and circuit board design of mass-produced consumer electronics
- Experience with owning scope, schedule, risk management, and cost for PCBs and components through every stage of the product development process and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team
- Experience collaborating closely with mechanical, test, firmware, and manufacturing engineers optimize design for flexible printed circuit boards
- Experience with wearable technologies and technical soft goods
- Experience in research environments
- Experience driving US and Asia-based vendors remotely and in-person, including a variety of engineering engagement models (CM, JDM and ODM)
- Knowledge of common human factors, safety and regulatory, and electrical engineering concerns
- Experience leveraging Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) Tools such as Design of Experiments (DOE)
