Site Reliability Engineer for a contract position in Nashville, TN.

Responsibilities:
  • You will be responsible for the overall performance and reliability of critical enterprise applications.
  • Proactively analyze applications and identify opportunities to improve performance
  • Document and maintain system architecture, build triage documentation for operational support.
  • Through the use of a wide breadth of tools, identify software bugs or misconfigurations and fix those issues.
  • Build out of systems dashboard to monitor key infrastructure metrics
  • Strong knowledge of custom alerts and ability to integrate data housed in disparate data sources to create workflow driven alerting
  • Continuously tune and validate quality of current tools for network, system monitoring, log file parsing, and implement a toolkit that works
  • Implementation of monitoring on various online applications using solutions such as Splunk, Idera, CA Tools, AppDynamics, etc. and ability to determine the right toolset to accomplish monitoring goals on new applications
  • Tune large-scale applications for optimal performance and efficiency
  • Monitor infrastructure, respond to incidents, correct and improve systems to prevent incidents, and plan capacity
  • Recommends opportunities for process improvement and create process documentation
  • Real-time support of critical service disruptions
  • Create post mortem analysis of why services broke or became degraded, include recommendations for long term fixes.
  • Determine root-cause for all production level incidents and write corresponding high-quality RCA reports
  • Collaborating across business and technology organizations, providing sound analysis and thought leadership
  • Support system upgrade, implementations and deployments
  • Develop automation tools utilizing standard languages and adhering to best practices SDLC
  • Identify tactical issues and react to emerging areas of concern
  • Work reciprocally with Vendors, Product Analysts, Developers in supporting new features, services, releases, and become an authority in our applications
  • Partner with the Agile development teams to learn and assume responsibility for documentation, logging, and monitoring for various systems
  • Identify unnecessary complexity and remove it

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • 10+ Years of more of experience in the following areas:
  • Foundational knowledge of VMWare or other virtualization solutions
  • Extensive experience with complex multi-system environments
  • Foundational understanding of networks and the 7 layers of the OSI model
  • Extensive experience knowledge of Linux and Windows Systems Administration
  • Extensive experience with scripting languages such as Bash, PowerShell
  • Extensive experience with development languages such as C/.NET/Python
  • Extensive experience maintaining a large production infrastructure hosted on premise or public cloud providers
  • Extensive experience with software development life cycle (SDLC) best practices.
  • Ability to automate tasks that are scalable, maintainable, and repeatable.
  • Strong knowledge of core protocols and tech such as: SAN’s, TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, load balancers, distributed file systems
  • Self-disciplined, self-managed, self-motivated and strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive
  • Knowledge and interest in the latest system architecture trends
  • Ability to rapidly learn and understand new systems
  • Application Performance Monitoring (APM)
  • SQL, Linux, Scripting, file manipulation, reporting
  • Experience with large server logs, aggregating multiple data logs elements together in tools such as Splunk for data analysis, troubleshooting alerting/monitoring.
  • Think long-term and be unsatisfied with Band-Aids
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide exceptional verbal and written customer communications.
  • Understanding of programming languages, such as Java, C/C, or others Using version control (GIT or SVN)
  • Strong experience with Microsoft SQL and/or other DB systems
  • Experience with managing large scale Kubernetes clusters in a micro services and containerized environment using Docker
