Position SummaryThe Electronics Hardware Engineer is responsible for engineering design and validation testing for new products, as well as improvements and cost reductions for existing products. Individuals in this role will collaborate with other engineers on assigned design teams and may also direct work performed by lab technicians, co-ops/interns, or outside resources, and must work effectively with members of other departments to help resolve any product issues in a timely manner. The successful candidate must possess strong communication and organization skills in addition to 7 years of electronics hardware design experience for high-reliability applications and high-volume production.

Objectives
  • Perform product design and evaluate options to meet specifications, cost targets, and schedule.
  • Perform electronic circuit design, debugging, and validation for low power, battery-based, 8/16/32-bit embedded microprocessor systems with long lifespan and high-reliability requirements.
  • Perform a tolerance allowance of analog and digital circuits through analysis and simulation.
  • Perform design for circuit protection, filtering, and shielding as needed.
  • Perform and submit to peer reviews and audits to ensure the integrity of the product design and conformance to professional and departmental standards.
  • Formulate specifications for parts, processes, and tests as needed for product design, validation, and manufacture.
  • Direct support personnel and outside resources as needed for evaluation and documentation of designs, creation of prototypes, and generation of drawings.
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities and apply engineering problem-solving techniques to improve product performance and manufacturability.
  • Maintain expertise in current and emerging technologies and apply them to product designs.
  • Develop new ideas and inventions for use in products and ensure the protection of Neptune intellectual property through disclosures and patent applications.
  • Requirements

    Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics Engineering, Wireless Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.

    Experience: 7+ years in Engineering design and development

    Must-Have Experience:
    • Design of low power battery-based systems for high-volume production.
    • Designing circuits to support RF modulation schemes and protocols, including but not limited to Bluetooth, OOK, FSK, and GFSK.
    • Circuit protection schemes, including but not limited to ESD protection, High and Low-Frequency EMI filtering, and circuit isolation.
    • Low-level communication protocols and microprocessor peripherals, including but not limited to SPI, UART & I2C.
    • Power Integrity and Circuit Tolerance analysis.

    Additional Desired Experience:
    • Experience with design and certification of Cellular devices.
    • Experience with FPGA-based system designs.
    • Experience with schematic capture, PCB layout, and analysis techniques for multi-layer board designs.
    • Knowledge of FCC, JEDEC, EN, and MIL standards as they pertain to circuit design and PCB development and manufacturing.
