Vacancy expired!
Facebook's global network is built with cutting edge platforms and technologies and we are looking for a Network Modeling Engineer to join the backbone Optical Network Engineering team. This team is responsible for designing, building, and operating the world's largest Optical network. In this role, you will have a unique opportunity to shape the future of how we design the optical network at Scale making use of the latest technologies across the global network considering Long Haul, Metro, and Subsea networks. You will be in a position to influence key design philosophies and optimizations to accommodate our explosive growth.
- Work with various teams to understand FB's network, user base, performance constraints and growth requirements
- Create modeling frameworks for various networking problems such as: layer 0 topology optimizations for interconnecting data centers and POPs, optimizing optical site design building blocks, cross layer optimization under constraints such as latency, availability, and uncertain input signals
- Work with optical engineering to understand hardware features and reflect impact on network topology design
- Own the design, development, testing, and tuning of future capacity and topology models
- 5+ years of experience in optical network design
- Understanding of optical networking concepts & building blocks (Wavelength, DWDM, Transponder to Router Connectivity, Transponder to Fiber Connectivity, ROADM, Multiplexer, Transponder etc.)
- Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining network level layer 0 modeling frameworks to solve network optimization
- Experience utilizing Python, C, MATLAB or other programming languages coupled with experience creating simulation frameworks for network optimizations
- Understanding of Optical layer (L0/L1) traffic reliability configurations using Protection and/or Restoration schemes including pros/cons
