Job Description

At KIPP New Orleans Schools, we expect our

Director of MTSS —as a member of the KNOS Student Support Team—to comprehensively lead all aspects of Tier 2 and Tier 3 intervention programming for KIPP New Orleans Schools. The Director of MTSS does this by developing and leading a high performing team of interventionists who provide services that accelerate student learning. This role requires setting standards for excellent intervention delivery, data analysis and comprehensive student problem solving. KNOS is committed to executing healthy, robust student support systems and the Director of MTSS is critical to establishing a strategy for intervention, training and supporting staff in execution of interventions, and leading processes to identify students with disabilities. The Director of MTSS will manage the School Psychologist Lead and will report to the Managing Director of Student Support Services.

Responsibilities:

Lead Intervention Team

● Work in collaboration with School Leaders, School Leader Coaches, Academics team and key stakeholders to develop comprehensive vision & plan for intervention.

● Provide intensive support and development to the Dean of MTSS for each campus.

● Survey school leadership teams to determine academic and behavior tiers already in place at each school.

● Collaborate with regional team and schools to outline three collective tiers of academic interventions and select and secure evidence-based curriculum resources for Tier 2 and 3 academic interventions.

● Collaborate with regional teams and schools to determine three collective tiers of behavioral and socio-emotional interventions and the tools and training necessary to implement them.

● Coordinate training to school-based staff so that they implement and progress monitor Tier 2 and 3 interventions.

● Develop a KNOS MTSS practice manual, outlining roles and responsibilities of the school-based Dean of MTSS, SBLC team members, screening tools and standard documentation forms.

Drive Multi-Tier System of Supports (MTSS) Programing

● Conduct analysis on trends in student performance in the areas of academics and behavior outcomes.

● Provide development to Deans of MTSS on analyzing universal screening results, trends in student performance and how to group students based on screening results.

● Identify evidence-based interventions aligned to targeted academic and social-emotional gaps in student performance.

● Drive systematic implementation of interventions across KNOS region of schools.

● Conduct regular assessment on the fidelity of intervention implementation.

● Establish a vision for School Building Level Committees and refine SBLC structures, systems and documentation.

● Ensure all schools are regularly holding effective SBLC team meetings.

● Provide feedback regarding data-based problem solving and progress monitoring.

● Ensure MTSS referrals for Special Education evaluation are strong and compliant with Bulletin 1508.

● Roll up intervention data analysis and share with School Leaders, SL Coaches and MD of Student Services.

Student Identification & Evaluation

● Manage the Lead School Psychologist who provides consultation, and professional development to KNOS School Psychologists and School Psych interns.

● Develop and implement evaluation tracking systems to ensure timely and accurate completion of Bulletin 1508-compliant evaluations.

● Work with KNOS team members to make accurate enrollment and budget forecasts.

● Determine division of labor and school assignments

● Ensure consistent approach to the evaluation process, including for gifted, and support compliance with Bulletin 1508 and IDEA.

● Manage testing materials, including materials inventory and ordering.

● Ensure collaboration among School Psychologists and between School Psychologists and school-based teams.

Manage Section 504 Program

● Coordinate and monitor KNOS compliance with Section 504 identification and requirements.

● Provide ongoing training to school-based staff regarding Section 504 and the implementation of Section 504 procedures

● Implement Section 504 procedures, forms, and templates to ensure consistency across schools.

Advocacy

● Work with school leaders and team to develop staffing models and support hiring of student support personnel.

● Develop external partnerships with stakeholders and community resources who advance the work of student support services in our schools.

● Communicate effectively with all stakeholders and build relationships.

Model high expectations, inclusive language and belief in the ability of all students to be successful at KIPP.

Qualified candidates for the Director of MTSS role will possess a growth mindset – that is, the belief that all students can make progress – and a history propelling the success of students with different learning needs. Attention to detail, ability to analyze data, provide feedback to staff, advocate for all students, and build systems are essential. In addition, qualified candidates will demonstrate experience successfully managing a team of adults. Preference will be given to candidates with previous Special Education teaching experience, and/or certification in School Psychology.
