Senior Systems Administrator The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) is the shared services organization for a highly regarded cluster of seven independent colleges known as The Claremont Colleges located in Southern California. The Senior Systems Administrator works within a collaborative team for the purpose of implementing, planning, and supporting all The Claremont Colleges Services virtual server environments. The Senior Systems Administrator provides leadership and guidance within the team and serves as a role-model and mentor for new or junior staff members. This role additionally creates new enterprise server-based solutions used by diverse user groups across The Claremont Colleges. The Senior Systems Administrator contributes to process improvement efforts by gathering and analyzing data for both administrative and technical purposes. The ideal candidate demonstrates perseverance and is motivated by new challenges and opportunities for growth. The candidate can maintain composure in high-pressure situations and expresses tact and empathy to others with a conscientious attitude. The incumbent is also comfortable in customer relationship management and facilitating and guiding discussions. This position reports to the Director of Infrastructure Services within Information Technology Services.

Essential Functions:
  • Implements and supports all The Claremont Colleges Services virtual server environments.
  • Works with both on premise and cloud based virtual servers.
  • Creates and improves common Microsoft services in virtual server environments.
  • Evaluates existing virtual servers and services for needed changes and improvements.
  • Analyzes data from a variety of sources to develop reports for capacity planning, service inquiries, troubleshooting, and other relevant needs.
  • Provides documentation about virtual server environment for other team members and stakeholders.
  • Performs other functions, including but not limited to, system troubleshooting, bug reporting/mediation, new technology research, etc.
  • Participates in a team environment to complete project timelines and goals.
  • Effectively communicates and collaborates in a high-performance team environment.
  • Contributes to diverse and cross-functional teams, including teams with members from across The Claremont Colleges or on teams with members from external organizations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to respond to on-call requests in support of service availability.
  • Plans, implements, and supports all The Claremont Colleges Services virtual server environments.
  • Evaluates Microsoft virtual server environments for needed changes and improvements and creates proposals for these to management.
  • Compiles data from a variety of sources and analyzed it to develop reports for capacity planning, service inquiries, troubleshooting, and other relevant needs.
  • Provides documentation, mapping, and training about virtual server environment for other team members and stakeholders.
  • Leads peers in other functions, including but not limited to, system troubleshooting, bug reporting/mediation, new technology research, etc.
  • Leads teams in a collaborative environment to complete project timelines and goals.
  • Effectively communicates and collaborates in a high-performance team environment with a conscientiousness to the technical level and frequency relevant to the audience.
  • Leads diverse and cross-functional teams, including teams with members from across The Claremont Colleges or on teams with members from external organizations, including client relationship manager roles.
  • A leaderful individual that serves as a role model and mentor to new or junior staff members.
  • Approaches management with well-developed problem statements, and proposed solutions to addressing them.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, engineering, information technology) or five (5) years of experience with the Essential Functions listed above.
  • Extensive experience providing excellent customer service.
  • Five (5) or more years of full-time or part-time equivalent experience working in a virtual server infrastructure environment.
  • Extensive experience working in a Microsoft server environment.
  • Experience managing email services.
  • Extensive experience troubleshooting network services, such as DHCP and DNS.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure environments, such as AWS or MS Azure.
  • Ability to communicate to audiences with a wide variety of technical aptitude and understanding.
  • Ability to using management tools to administer a large-scale infrastructure environment.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to balance multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with building Microsoft services that may include file services, DHCP/DNS, Active Directory, or Exchange.
  • Experience designing virtual environments that may include clustering, backups, storage, and networking.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data, such as system logs, for troubleshooting and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an institute of higher education.
  • Experience leading projects, teams, or working groups to achieve objectives and goals.
  • Experience mentoring or coaching peers in a professional environment.
  • Knowledge of facilitation or project management concepts.
  • Familiarity with client relations management or similar service provider roles.

Required Hours: The hours for this position hours are generally 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours may be required occasionally. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the organization or business unit.
