Description: Description\: The Area Engineer, alongside the Facility Engineer, ensures proper operations and maintenance of buildings, systems, and equipment by designing engineering modifications to systems, developing maintenance programs, performing inspections, conducting training, and identifying budget requirements. In addition, the Area Engineer will design and implement Capital and Maintenance Projects. - Provide support for the design and implementation of capital and maintenance projects assigned both for the facilities operation and for the User Group needs in assigned facilities overseeing contractors as necessary.
- Serve as an ad hoc team member on capital projects providing information and direction, coordination, and interface services.
- Develop troubleshooting methods and direct operation of assigned manufacturing and/or processing, facility and utility equipment. Develop and implement maintenance procedures to ensure that assigned facilities and systems are maintained and downtime minimized. Develop (and perform when assigned) PM procedures for assigned equipment and facilities.
- At times, provide technical direction to contractors and suppliers regarding assigned manufacturing and/or processing systems with an emphasis on safety, reliability and GMP's.
- Provide technical consulting to user groups as necessary regarding new equipment. Lead projects as assigned.
- Integrate calibration, validation and maintenance activities performed in laboratories without involvement of ISEE into applicable management systems and contracts.
- Participate in routine inspections of facilities including mechanical rooms to initiate corrective action as necessary. Develop and implement energy conservation measures.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required with a focus in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical) preferred with a minimum of three (3) to (five) 5 years of relevant experience in chemical processing environments, i.e. chemicals, pharmaceutical plants, clean rooms etc.
- Must have very strong knowledge of chemical processing safety concepts and procedures, particularly with respect to flammable chemicals.
- Must be able to organize schedules and schedule and prioritize multiple activities.
- Knowledge of air handling systems, lab exhaust systems, piping systems, boiler and chiller operations, reheat, heating, and all facility related building systems.
- Ability to diagnose and solve problems related to buildings and equipment;
- Must be able to troubleshoot manufacturing and processing systems, air handling, exhaust (fume hood) or lab gases and piping systems.
- Design engineering upgrades to systems to extend system life and/or to satisfy needs of scientists' equipment.
- Must be able to organize, schedule and prioritize multiple activities.
- Strong project management, technical, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to relate technical knowledge to discussions with Facility Engineer, Maintenance supervisor or other technical staff.
- Job requires strong knowledge of chemical processing principles, reactors, condensers, centrifuges building hazard classifications for the operation of a chemical plant.
- Knowledge of GMPs for drug synthesis and Fire Protection procedures are critical skills for this position.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
- Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)
- Must be 18 years of age or older
