Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties such as inspecting and diagnosing heavy mobile and engineering equipment to determine the type of maintenance needed. I work under normal supervision of a work leader who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Trouble ShootingUse of Measuring Instruments Works in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods; work requires frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching. Frequently works on top of and under vehicles in cramped, awkward positions. Required to do strenuous work while standing, lying, or sitting. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing 40 plus pounds, and often lifts and moves heavier items with the assistance of other workers and with lifting devices, such as hoists, jacks, and cranes. Works inside and outside in all seasons, and in environmental chambers; frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, noise; when outside. Frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and from hard, damp floors or ground. The parts and systems to be worked on are usually dirty, oily, or greasy. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, burns, bruises, and sprains while repairing, positioning, and moving equipment. Often exposed to the possibility of receiving bums and skin irritations from acid, fluids, and lubricates. To reduce the danger from above conditions, the mechanic is expected to follow prescribed safety practices and use safety equipment such as protective ear devices, goggles, safety shoes, and protective clothing.EducationAdditional InformationMale applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. Two year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. This is a Career Program (CP) 17 - Material Maintenance Management position. You may claim military spouse preference (MSP).
