D6 Bridge Shop Heavy Repair (TRT011) Heavy Equipment Operator 2/MEO (PG-F)DescriptionJOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision performsskilled labor in the transportation-related areas such as maintenance ofhighways and right of ways. Operates heavy construction, towing, or maintenanceequipment to remove, distribute, level, pave, or grade earth to maintaintraffic flow. May also serve in a lead or supervisory role.JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES: Under general supervision performsskilled labor in the transportation-related areas such as maintenance ofhighways and right of ways. Operates various types of heavy equipment, such asmotor grader, small excavator, asphalt paver, lowboy, etc.to complete assignedtasks and performs preventive maintenance on assigned equipment. May respond toemergency situations affecting the state route system during and after normal workinghours. May provide day-to-day supervision of a crew or sub-unit to accomplishthe tasks assigned by the supervisor. In the absence of may function as anassistant to the Highway Maintenance Foreman.NOTE: Based on operationrequirements such as brine transport and on-call emergencies, possession of aClass A CDL may be preferred for some positions. At the discretion of the hiring manager,he/she reserves the right to interview only those who meet this criteria in additionto the minimum qualifications.MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONSThe selected candidate must meetthe advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications aswell as Agency Specific Minimum QualificationsSTATEENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

HSDiploma or GED AND One year of experience in the operation of heavy equipmentand large vehicles such as bulldozers, front end loaders, ditchers, motorgraders, dump trucks, drilling equipment and/or heavy duty trucks.

OROne year of experience at a lower level Heavy Equipment Operator 1(TRT010) or position equivalent

Note:Some positions may require a Commercial Driver’s License

AGENCYMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Anextensive knowledge of maintenance activities or three years of experience inthe operation of various motorized equipment associated with highwayconstruction and maintenance activities

Possessionof a Class B CDL

Successfulcompletion of MSD Level 1-3.

Demonstratedability to serve as the primary Equipment Operator in the performance ofassigned maintenance activities and preventative maintenance on assignedequipment such as motor graders, bulldozers, excavators, loaders, asphaltpavers, lowboys, dump trucks etc.

Demonstratedability to operate power and hand tools

ProvenExperience and working knowledge of "Material Safety Data Sheets"(MSDS)

Demonstratedexperience in planning, completing, and documenting routine maintenance workactivities

Abilityto perform the physical requirement of the position and to work in adverseweather conditions

Abilityto work emergencies outside of normal working hours

Committedto providing quality customer service

Abilityto assist/teach by guiding and providing constructive feedback

Demonstratedability to adapt to changing situations and work plans

Abilityto work with people from different backgrounds and varied situations.

Possessionof a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License

Possessionof CDL tanker endorsement

Abilityto provide leadership and guidance to lower level employees in the operation ofequipment and preventive maintenance and to train lower level employees intheir job responsibilities

Demonstratedability in reading, understanding and completing forms and reports such asmonthly mileage report (497), warehouse requests form (592), vehicle defectreport (631), Foreman's Manual, and Preventive Maintenance Manual
