Job DescriptionAt Boeing, we innovate and collaborate to make the world a better place. From the seabed to outer space, you can contribute to work that matters with a company where diversity, equity and inclusion are shared values. We're committed to fostering an environment for every teammate that's welcoming, respectful and inclusive, with great opportunity for professional growth. Find your future with us.The Boeing Global Services (BGS) Engineering Analytics Modeling and Simulation team is looking for a motivated self-starting Modeling and Simulation Engineer 3 with a passion for problem solving using modeling and simulation capabilities in Seattle, WA. Our team builds, uses, and maintains simulation tools which are leveraged across the Boeing Company to provide solutions for a wide array of business and engineering challenges across our commercial, government and services products, giving this position a unique opportunity to experience many sides of Boeing's core businesses.BGS Engineering Analytics sustains two major simulation suites: Logistics Simulation Analysis Suite (LSAS) and Alliance. While Alliance supports the analysis of aviation operations, LSAS is used to analyze the support and logistics considerations to optimally sustain fleets of aircraft. This position supports the LSAS domain and is comprised of supply chain simulation, fleet operations simulation, and inventory optimization capabilities. LSAS is used to analyze inventory level requirements and assess the interactions between supply chain, system reliability, maintainability, maintenance, and resources to derive predictive estimates of supply chain and fleet availability performance. It is primarily written in ModL (the C-like ExtendSim coding language) and Python/C to increase connectivity with other systems. New extensions are conceived, designed, and developed in-house to continue expanding functionality to address and overcome modern day logistics challenges.BGS Modeling and Simulation Engineers are responsible for system maintenance, development of new features, and program or operational analysis. Using the team's proprietary simulation tools, the Modeling and Simulation team is able to create solutions for an immense array of operational challenges; many of which have never been attempted before. The BGS Engineering Analytics team is looking for new engineers to continue to deliver innovative solutions to further these capabilities. Engineers supporting this domain of work will:Position Responsibilities:
- Utilize discrete event simulation skills and techniques for scenario analysis to identify root-cause factors, perform trade studies and sensitivity analyses, and provide recommendations to Boeing program management.
- Build logistics and operations support models, including customized constructs in the ExtendSim environment
- Develop simulation modeling requirements with clients; providing end-to-end solution development support.
- Engage with client teams to determine fit-for-purpose value and solution needs and provide continual updates on progress to completion.
- Coordinate (and potentially co-develop) with LSAS teammates to develop new methods and capabilities based on client requirements and future capability demands.
- Create visualizations for new and existing models.
- Support development of long term technology requirements/milestones for LSAS products and ExtendSim at Boeing.
- 2+ Years Discrete Event Simulation Development: Demonstrated experience utilizing discrete event simulation techniques to: collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources at the work group level.
- 1+ Year(s) Statistical Process Modeling: Applied experience and general knowledge of statistically driven modeling techniques (e.g., mathematical modeling, simulation, design of experiments, operations research) to analyze a system.
- 1+ Year(s) Modeling and Simulation technologies: Applied experience with Alliance, ExtendSim, or equivalent modeling and scenario building tools (AnyLogic, Simul8, FlexSim, Simio, etc.)
- Domain expertise in supply chain, logistics and fleet sustainment, military systems analysis, reliability analysis, optimization techniques.
- Knowledge of modeling and prototyping tools (e.g., Matlab, MathCAD).
- Knowledge of computing equipment and its operating systems (e.g., Windows, UNIX, Linux).
- Applied experience coding in C, Python, or a mix of both languages.
