Job Description

We are looking for a

Research Associateto join Wood Mackenzie’s Energy Transition team in the United States. The research associate will join the growing energy storage team and help track the market and build insights for clients into the ever-changing power sector. This role will focus on tracking momentum and innovation taking place in the behind-the-meter storage space which is quickly emerging as a key disruptor in the market.

As a Research Associate you will be responsible for data collection and analysis of the U.S. energy storage market with a focus on behind-the-meter storage applications. Your key responsibilities will include collecting deployment and cost data from industry contacts and publicly available sources, processing and presenting data through quarterly research publications and topical reporting, developing subject matter expertise on the commercial and residential energy storage space in the U.S., and managing key internal databases tracking storage trends.

You will work closely with the Head of Energy Storage as well as collaborating with the global Energy Storage team, and across the Energy Transition teams when appropriate, to ensure the timely and accurate provision of all relevant data and insight.

You will be expected to conduct data gathering and maintain critical data sets on behind-the-meter storage in the US, address customer inquiries with the support of senior team members, provide insight into market trends, and support other topical coverage as needed. You will be expected to correspond with stakeholders within the U.S. energy storage industry to collect key data on the energy storage landscape.

Qualifications

Successful research associates at Wood Mackenzie have an analytical and creative mindset and a keen eye for detail. They thrive when collecting and organizing data but are eager to examine the “why” behind the trends they uncover. Key skills include:

  • Proficiency in data collection and analysis, including through the Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint. Experience with more complicated modeling, particularly in energy, is a plus
  • Attention to detail and organization when managing large and diverse data sets
  • Strong communication skills, with a focus on collecting data from stakeholders and presenting key insights to clients through research reports
  • Curiosity and creativity to adapt to a rapidly-evolving market and identify new sources for information
  • An undergraduate degree with a focus on sciences, engineering, or environmental policy is required. Experience with energy storage or renewable energy is preferred.
